"MINI, ruining the classic minimalist brand since 2007. "

The more do dads and crap they put in the more it becomes a BMW and less a MINI.

I know my advanced years has something to do with it, but all these "nannies" have me moving closer to Darth Dave.0's Dark Side. :eek6:

A couple of the best bits of advice I ever got: "Keep it simple stupid" (with or without punctuation between the two S words) and "Needle, ball and airspeed".

Traction control just allows people that have no business out in bad weather think they can drive though anything.

    Nah, it'll be too busy compensating for a driver that's text-messaging. :mad2:

If it's got more parts than an anvil or a crowbar, something's gonna crap out, this thing may well be DOA before it gets launched. Too dang many distractions from the primary objective. How can you enjoy motoring if you're too busy fussing with all that useless bidness.

I'll finally be able to eat my oatmeal while applying mascara and finishing that book I've been meaning to get to! All that pesky road sign reading takes up all my energy and I barely have time to remember to use my headlights in the rain.

I'd be happy if it came with a drink tube delivering coffee. Hell, since we won't have to actually drive anymore, let's make it bourbon. ;)

I agree with you Nathan. My GPS and phone are mounted around the rev counter as you have in Gnat. The new HUD looks like a great idea to me. The same type information is projected for the pilot of and F16 fighter and they go even faster then Dave O's MINI. :D

It does seem to be a little much. And I'm a guy that loves all the cool little wizbang gadgets that come out. But I'll tell you what I don't like, freaking traction control. I turn that crap off every time I get in the car. Makes my poor Mini bounce around wayyyy too much when I hit a bump in the road.

Hasn't someone come up with wizbang gadget to defeat it on R56 MINIs? I have one on my R53 that sets the default to off. I can turn it on when I want. I've done that maybe 3 times since December 2005. :D Hates them nanny's. :incazzato:

Sad. You don't even need to know how to drive anymore. All of this crap just makes it even more dangerous out there as people become more reliant on technology that they don't even know how to use properly. Can't wait to see the list of error codes when all of those sensors fail, either.

Still holding judgement on the F-series until I see it in person but none of that sounds appealing to me.

As someone that has a rev counter and speed readout the top of my dash in line of sight I have to say it is great to have. I can see some good things here. I do think once people get used to having a limited amount of important info right in their face they will wonder how they did without all these years.

I'm talking about the display you can see below above the steering wheel on the dash.

Can't wait for the fully autonomous MINI next year, so I won't be bothered with all those fussy pedals and stuff

Wonder how gargantuan the after oem warranty costs would be to maintain all this technology? All these whizbang goodies won't be cheap to fix. I definately would read the fine print about their coverage before signing any extended warranty contract. There now will probably never be a better reason to purchase an extended warranty for long term ownership.

Imagine trying to troubleshoot an issue as a tech with all this new technology in the MINI. Oy!

Wish they would get the crap in gen2 cars working right....before they add more stuff...
Hate to say...the more tech they add hardwired to the car, the faster it looks/becomes dated...
    Maybe that is the plan...
Look at the gen1 with nav....by the end of the production run, a $100 GPS could do more....then a $20 phone app....now free Google maps......the the unit becomes a $$$ museum piece in a moving car...sure some still work...
HUD displays have been done before...guess the hope is to reduce distractions...Germans once did this by simply not including cupholders...lol...remember the days when life was simple.....
