I started this thread some time ago, and since then I've been running around with my custom built gauge housing in raw aluminum. Well, one of my buddies owns a powder coating business and apparently it's been bugging him that I haven't gotten around to coating it. So yesterday I pulled it and gave it to him. Well I gotta say, he did a fantastic job. He matched my dark silver MINI color perfectly. Now he's bugging me to powder coat my wheels. But I think I'll hold off on that for a little while at least. Here are some pic's of the housing, now I need to get it back in the MINI. .
WOW, The Mini community never ceases to Amaze ME. This setup is awesome! You should put together several of these setups and sell them. I would definately purch ase one if the price was reasonable
Thanks... Well everything was free or almost free...., Hah, I like that word.... even the powder coating from my buddy's business, everything was made from scrap aluminum from the local scrap dealer. I just like to throw things together for my MINI. Absolutely not interested in making these, the business that puts food on my table takes way too much of my time as it is. I really like the work DneprDave did on his gauge bracket, unlike what I did that requires aluminum welding and might make people shy away, almost anyone could do his project. Just go to Lowe's or Home Depot, get ABS pipe and sheet from their plumbing department and some of their pipe adhesive and some spray paint and go to it. Chuck
I really only need a boost guage and the shift light is a nice bonus. Both Setups are Stellar. My hat is off to both of you!
I know this is a year old but, Extremely well done sir! Was there ever a pic of this installed as a finished product?
The Marshal's gauges were designed for the MINI. I know that when I was looking for gauges they were extremely hard to find anywhere close to matching the interior. :drool
Marshall Gauges Here is what I did for a couple of gauges in one of our MINI's. Marshall gauges. Cravenspeed Cups w/2"ABS pipe caps turned down to fit the cups as backs. Cravenspeed bracket, which I will eventually modify so it does not hit the dash. The other MINI uses an i-Phone and a WiFi sender, but still no oil pressure :-(
guys are there any other gauges close to the R56 OEM look other than Marshalls gauges? maybe something new around?
I would say no in fact Marshall's has other gauges that are close including the amber lighting. They went further and made gauges that match color and font of the MINI Cooper which are the ones that all of us are talking about.
to be honest they are not a perfect match but its true they are close, probably closer than anything else ive seen around so far! also the JCW are not bad, maybe the exact matching that marshalls provide isnt a must, maybe a difference is needed, Marshalls would be perfect if they were 100% identical the the OEM style, now those little differences give the impression that they were done by accident and thats not good! On the other hand im just beeing a little mean here now, sorry
after a year, is there anything closer to what we've seen in this thread? btw are these with these the same?
