To tell you the truth, I have always wondered why there was a damper or even a tensioner for the belt. How many other cars have a spring mounted tensioner for the serpentine belt?

According to belt manufacturer Gates there over 100 million cars out there using spring loaded automatic belt tensioners.

I'm thinking having the belt run the supercharger makes all the difference. I can only imagine the problems with slipping belts there'd be without that spring loaded little beauty.

My Chevy S-10 has a spring loaded tensioner for the serpentine belt, all serpentine belts have to have one. It's not like the old V-belts where every add on component had adjustments.

On my S-10 the damper is provided by the belt under tension by the wound flat spring inside the tensioner pulley housing, it adds or reduces tension as required.

Well I got all the parts that I ordered today, Thanks to WMW and Out Motoring as it all hit at once. I got the power steering cooling fan cover on in about 15 min., the cubby in front of the cup holders took a bit longer trying to get it in so a phone call revealed that it had to be folded like a taco to get it in but the effort was worth it as it will come in handy. Then the Samco intake hose showed up and I fought with it for a couple of hours and then decided that it needed to be cut down, but wish I had left a extra 1/2" on but everything sealed as it should. The factory hose came apart taking it off where the ridges that allow it to flex to get it to bend and allow it to be fitted but finaly got the new one on and sealed good. And then UPS showed up with my WMW 15% Pulley kit with the 15% pulley a shorter belt and one heat range colder plugs. But that will wait until I get the A.T.I. Super Pulley and new motor mounts and do that all at once. I must say that I'm impressed with the quality of the craftsmanship of the pulley. And finaly installed the Cabin Cabin Air Filter.

:cornut: The Samco intake hose, is it reenforced? There's a LOT of vacuum pressure on that hose. Years ago I got one from Alta and after 3mos it started collapsing and throwing codes. Now I have a metal intake pipe and problem solved.

Jason, are you running a turbo or a supercharger as it is my understanding that there should be no pressure on the intake hose as all it does is feed fresh air from the intake box and filter to the inlet side of the supercharger and has no pressure going through it. As apposed to a turbo system that uses the exhaust to pressurize the intake charge and is the reason they use so much metal tubing with the silicon or neoprene hose connections for the metal piping. That is why a turbo set up has to use the metal piping.

The SAMCO hose is made up of a blue inner section that is reinforced with what looks like nylon stitching or 2 layers of nylon wrapped in the blue section with another blue layer in between as a reinforcement and another blue section between the red layer red outer layer. While not as stiff as the age cracked stock hose it replaced it also doesn't have the ridges that helped the factory hose to bend and thus creating turbulence that disrupt the air flow. Also they must work or WMW and several other parts suppliers wouldn't carry them as they would have proven problematic.

Intake hose is mostly bling. Might get a slight increase in power...it sounded like you took care in fitting it, trimming it to fit tightly, and allowing it to stay flexed, so it did not bend making a bottleneck in the soft side :biggrin5:
When it comes to silicone hoses like Samco, many folks switch to them for radiators...the issue ifrom what I have read is they are a bit more permeable than the stock style OEM hoses used in the cooling system.. Maybe they just got a bad ebay deal, but many folks report the need to add a bit of added coolant..and no leaks...but to some folks, the LOOK is worth it. OEM rubber hoses seem to be OK...folks usually seem to be replacing them after about 10 years or so

I had the full set of silicone rad hoses till I had the engine rebuilt. Some were getting a bit weak feeling after 5 years and 60K miles. I'm back to OEM hoses.

I just chose it as I could get it without having to drive 115 miles to Tenn. to the nearest MINI dealer and I figured that the stock hose would have been a lot more expensive that the one I got from WMW.

Just ordered the Cooper S tensioner tool, bushing kit for the hydraulic damper on the belt tensioner, the tool for removal of the Supercharger pulley. The only thing left is the hydraulic fluid damper crankshaft pulley that will be ordered on the first of the month and talked to the Mechanic yesterday and was told he could have it out in 45 min. to a hour and should come in at less than $200.00 which will be done on the 13th of Feb. Whoo, Whoo!

Well I ordered the final piece to get the Supercharger pulley installation done, I ordered a PRW Fluid filled Crankshaft Harmonic Balancer Pulley yesterday and hope to have everything installed on the 13th. I figured with 102000 miles on the car it would be best to go ahead and do the crank Pulley done as a safety measure. I hope everything works out well and it makes a real significant difference in performance. I went out on one of my favorite 2 lane twistys the other day and had a Ford Lightning and a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Hemi who were trying to keep me from getting around, the Lightning was taking a lot of chances by using the oncoming lane for the curves. I put the Jeep away first and came around him on the first straight at 100 M.P.H. and got the Lightning at the 2nd straight at over 100 M.P.H. I was running the curves that had a recommended speed of 45 M.P.H. at 80-85 M.P.H. and never got out of my lane. Had a blast, just hope the Pulley swap makes a significant difference and then I'll start on a few suspension parts and do the rear seat delete.:cornut:

You are sure to notice the improvement in power the 15% pulley gives.:biggrin5: You won't feel any difference from the fluid crank pulley. You will have piece of mine knowing the oem crank pulley isn't there waiting to break.

While you are at it check the tensioner & idler pulley. With the miles your MINI has they may be nearing the end of their life.

Sounds like you had fun, but from one friend to another it sounds like you were taking chances too.

Thanks Way for the fast service as I recieved my Fluid Crankshaft Damper Pulley today, and if all goes as planned it and the Hydraulic Damper bushing kit for the belt tensioner and the new style WMW Tensioner Stop and the 15% Supercharger kit installed on the 13th if money allows. Realy looking forward to see the difference all these parts make!
