Ok, why's that? As the owner doesn't know ANYTHING about the car, I need all the help I can get. And I see blue springs, drilled rotors, and a little bit of the exhaust with that funky insulation. And I have no idea what suspension/brakes/exhaust she's running, and neither does she. Lolol.
Maybe it's just me, but personally, I'd have a hard time entertaining the idea of purchasing a car from some chick who knows absolutely nothing about it, even if I did have ModFather (and his expertise) as a resource. That is, unless you're prepared to sink a lot of $$$ in it... Sorry, I'm not meaning to be a party pooper. I guess I kinda just don't get this lady. :confused5:
Drilled rotors tend to crack and fracture if heated....so one or two hard driving sessions...could be dangerous... Slots have taken over from drilled holes for this reason...reality is anything you do to remove material from a rotor hurts you... Drilled rotors look OK...and are cheap on eBay cause folks buy plain rotors....and drill them and resell them for a few extra $$.... Hopefully the gal bought this car cause it looked "cool" and has never driven it hard... Check the computer when you look at it... Easy going drivers tend to get upper 20's mpg if mostly highway, middle 20's if mixed (till maybe below a 45 mph average speed)....so if the car has a trip computer...you might be able to infer how she has driven....that and asking about brakes... Easy going is 60-80,000 on a set of pads....harder driving as low as 35,000 depending on driving style (and auto-x/track days...but that can be a set in a weekend)...
I would see if she can put you in touch with the previous owner. When I bought my Mini it had been moded and the dealer sent me a list of mods done by the first owner.
Ok, I see where you're coming from. I don't plan on driving hard, but that's definitely something to check and change. Thanks for the heads up.
So I ran a VIN decoder on it (Thanks Nathan!!), all the stuff that's in German only, is that equipment on the car? I'm a tad confused. Thanks in advance, gents.
Google translate is your friend... Although there may not be a good direct translation. Those Germans know how to make everything overly complicated, including language.
Right, I've been using Google translate. My question is: Does this car come equipped with the options listed only in German? With the 2nd option on the list (Sperrdifferenzial)? And I'm guessing that's LSD? Google won't translate.
Best way to test it is on a test drive. Find a large shopping center or mall parking lot. Go as far away from any other cars as you can and at a dead stop "Turn off the DSC" and give it some gas (3K) and release the clutch quickly while in first gear and do a little burn out. Don't do a 40 foot tire burner that creates a whole lot of smoke, just enough to leave tire marks. If you look back and see two lines you have DSC. My test is much more fun then looking it up on line.
