Yeah, I've heard of Jan... Had a few run-ins with him at MT. Hahaha. Let's just say, I'm sure he does a great job building cars. XD He seems smart too, but he has a habit of pushing people's buttons hard-core over there. XP Yeah... I've never understood the stance scene. It doesn't even look good.... And I think he'd probably be worth the drive up to Irvine to get him to mod a car. Plus I wouldn't mind driving there.... Me and a friend are actually planning a roadtrip to San Fransisco next year, maybe I'll go get it tuned then.
I am sorry but MaxMini is Peter the original owner of M7. (Run Away Quickly) He is a complete id10t. I saw your thread on M|U.
Hahaha...sounds good. You know those donk cars are covered in vinyl wraps advertising some sort of candy usually. Since this is a Mini, are we going for Whoppers, Chiclets, or M&M Minis?
Regarding your last sentence, did I not tell you that would happen on page one of this thread? You can high five/good game me later.
Well, he did tell me to run Meth. ;P I wonder why the MT guys never seemed to run it. They all seemed to like upgraded TMIC better, occasionally they would even use a huge FMIC (Looked hideous). It's dead over there.... I've gotten like, 4 replies total. Hahaha
You gotta think outside the box, my friend. Whoppers on the right side, Chiclets on the left, and M&M minis on the back. A different color AND advertisement for each side. Stand apart from the crowd.
MT is mostly Euro guys and I don't think lots of them run Meth because of country laws. MU is a slow dying site but has a few followers that like a car that is un-drivable over 15 MPH because its slammed to the ground.
If we are going outside the box, why are we doing candy? Let's do something no one else already has. Let's do Wonder Bread. Wouldn't look any more stupid than those lame 80's Cutlass Supremes on wagon wheels and draped with ads for Reese's.
Yeah, I noticed that. They have me dreaming of a local 1320 MINI. XD Alright, I found 2 I'm interested in. Let the opinions commence: 2002 Mini Cooper S *OBO* 2005 Mini Cooper S On the first one, I can vouche for the kind of condition his car is in (I may have stalked him on other forums, so I know what he's saying is true). He's done all the right performance mods, and a little too heavy of a hand on the exterior, but I love the color combo and the exterior bits I don't like is stuff I can un-do. $6,500 sounds like a steal for all those mods (Read the whole ad, he later says that it's what he'll take). CONCERNS : Just based off the ad it seems like he ran it to death. Again, I've watched him on forums, and he doesn't seem like someone who street-races or anything, and he's said he wants the car in perfect condition to sell, and doesn't want someone to end up with a piece of junk or anything, but I'm a little concerned that the engine is gonna blow at 100,000.. So, what do you guys think? **EDIT** I don't know why he has those terrible pictures up, BTW. I've seen much, much better ones of his car, and it's very sharp looking under all the stupid looking stuff (Read: Brass knuckles shifter, stupid stickers, gold stripes, eyebrows). As far as the second one goes, I know, he's asking too much. If I can't haggle him down to about $6,300-$7,000 (Depending on the condition), it's a no. So, price aside, it looks like a nice, clean base to start modding. Miles are a little on the high side, but he seems to keep up on maintenance, and he already rebuilt the S/C. Again, what is your guy's experienced input? Thanks in advance!
As far as the '02, whether he did "all the right mods" or not, when you're buying a car like that, that has lots of go-fast goodies, you're taking a HUGE gamble on buying someone else's problems. Plus, he mentions several times in the ad how he drives....you may be walking into a trap. I've bought and sold more cars than times I've changed chonies (yes, I know I'm due for my annual shower...I'll get around to it eventually). I can tell you from personal experience that it doesn't matter what brand of car you buy, if you buy it modified, you're buying a problem that you will be putting money into. On the '05, looks clean and doesn't have a whole slew of stuff added. The miles are still really high though. If you're not in a huge hurry, you might want to bide your time because I guarantee you can find a lower mileage, cleaner example from an older, less speed-racer type individual for around the same price. Don't make the mistakes I have in the past by rushing into something just because you want it now. If you have the time/ability to really search, do so. It'll pay off for you big time.
Yeah, that was my concern with the first one. He's done WAY more to the engine than I want to, and I would probably prefer to do some lighter mods for less wear and tear. Plus I think it'd be fun to build my own, my way. Yeah, that second one has semi-high miles, but it seems really well taken care of. I've never seen a car so clean that's 10 years old with almost 100k miles on it. The seats even look perfect. And from what I've read, the main thing to watch with high-mile MINIs is the S/C, which this guy has already addressed. I'll wait it out, and maybe contact the guy for a showing and see if he's willing to go down on the price about $3,000. Hahaha. But I'm willing to wait for the right one. I've been watching the MINIs around here for a year or two to watch how often they come on and off the market, and a pretty decent number pop up each month. Thanks for your advice!
The 02 is a POS. The coil is an MSD one issue, the crank damper looks like it was removed for something else and most of the other mods are cheap low and parts. Not to mention it has the wrong O2 and has codes because of a cheap header. Just walk away from that one. The 05 S on the other hand looks to be perfect except for the price. I would work that down and tell the guy its 10 years old with almost 100 K on the clock. That is a nice car that was serviced well and garaged. You may find one with lower mileage but the body may not be in that nice of shape and it may have been modded already. If it was me I would take the virgin non modded car with the miles. My own 05 has 89k on the clock so it's not that bad for a 10 year old car at all. Heck you can even get him down lower because you have to replace the windshield.
This^ And you've built yours, tuned it, modded it, whatever you want to call it, AND you drive it hard and track it. Doesn't seem like this guy does any of that. Hahaha. Nor do I plan on it, either. I plan on babying this car, and letting it stretch its legs occasionally. Honestly I'm fine with the speed it gives stock, I just want it to be a little punchier, a little louder (Especially on the S/C side), a little prettier, and a lot lower. Lol. So I think this will last for quite a while. I'll keep looking around some more and wait a little longer, but I'm keeping my eye trained on this guy.
Yup I got my 05 virgin OEM R53 2 years old with 25K or something on it. the body was not perfect but I was able to fix all that stuff and have all the maintenance issues addressed. (Seals and stuff) Then I went on FULL MOD MODE. (Power and Suspension)
+1 For the '05... Its a pretty blank slate, and minus the miles (being in Carbondale, and commuting to Denver for service) that tells me its more mountain highway miles than anything. Or you could wait for something closer and cheaper to pop up at the dealer...
I think the answer is clear...that '02 is not worth the trouble. Dave and ModFather are definitely the guys to talk to on this kind of stuff, so I would pay close attention to their advice. I kind of wish they were closer, so I could take them with me when I go pick mine up lol.
Yeah.... I don't think I'll ever hit FULL MOD MODE. Lol. I just went a fun cruiser. Going for a drive is my favorite thing in the world, and I'm surrounded with beautiful drives, so I just want the perfect car to accompany me. The MINI would fit the bill perfectly. XD Yeah, that's another thing I thought about as well. It's probably tons of highway miles. I don't mind the drive to Carbondale, really. Looks like it may be worth it. And I avoid buying from dealers as much as possible.... And like I said, if he doesn't come down on the price by a few thousand, it's a no.
