So, I had this discussion in another thread, but I thought I'd bring it closer to my friends. The speedo in my R50 sat about 13mph below the zero mark. I took it apart and moved the needle. It held for a couple days and dropped to about 5mph below the zero mark. Instead of messing with it again, I decided to buy a used speedo. Based on the other thread, I was lead to believe that the mileage was stored in the computer and the new speedo would properly display my actual mileage. Well, that wasn't the case. Got the new speedo yesterday, plugged it in, and it displays 71k, yet my car is 136k. BUMMER While I plan to reattempt a fix to my current speedo, I'm curious if there is a way to force the update to the new speedo?
You could be like one of those crook car salesmen and resell it with less mileage for more money than you paid. LOL Reminded me of the movie Matilda.
My MINI had its speedo replaced while under warranty for a slow clock. When I picked up my car the correct mileage had been put back on it. Yes it can be done. Call John over at Best Auto Werks 614-236-5151 tell him Chuck sent you.
They use a new, uncoded speedo when replacing under warranty. Speedos can only be coded one time with a VIN and mileage.
