The way it works is the box in the back contains two solenoids which are connected to extended shifter cables. Instead of a H pattern manual shifter moving each cable a certain length with each gear change the solonoids do the physical maneuvering of the cables.
There are paddles which work via RF and the slap stick is hard wired.
The little round black digital lamp over the center of the wheel tells you which gear you are in .
The current stick was an upgrade that came from a version we were working on for Porsche. The added height is more comfortable than the shorter one and closer to the wheel ala rally style.
As for function it is a cross between a true sequential box and a manual. For me I think it takes the best of both worlds and negates the minus of a true sequential box. For one thing a real sequential box on the street is crazy. Loud as hell and not really conducive to average driving . A race box is just that something to be used while really putting your foot in it .
With this system you still use the clutch which gives you more control over things as you can heel and toe like normal but not worry about missing a gear . Additionally you can stack your shifts if you want to. As nothing happens until the clutch is depressed you can . for example , be on a fifth gear straight with a 3rd gear turn coming up. You simply hit the down paddle, or bump the stick forward twice and go for the clutch and you will be in third for the turn.
Being able to keep your hands on the wheel while still pulling shifts is also a big benefit but for the most part with around town driving I prefer the bump stick .
Many have said that its a waste if it doesn't do the clutch as well but in my way of thinking then you have just another fancy automatic. Those twin clutch style cars are great performers but with only two pedals to play with personally I get bored.
All in all it is really something you have to see in person to truly appreciate. Everyone I've ever demonstrated it for found it to be of interest.
I hope this answers your questions but feel free to ask more if you like.

Welcome Aboard!
Came across an old ad of a M7 device the made a manual into a paddle shift. I don't see it on the site so I'm guessing it didn't work very well or was too expensive. I just curious to how it worked.-

Welcome, always wondered why M7 wasn't a sponsor here, or were they and I am just blind.
