Funny when I first got my Mini in 2006 there was still a raging debate between the BMW gen Mini owners and the Classic owners who vehemently believed the new Minis not to be a MINI Cooper at all... There will always be folks that like one better than the other, protect and praise the one they own, but that is what makes us enthusiast and not just casual car owners....

To answer your question; yes but maybe not as passionately other than you are, or are not a Mazdaspeed MX-5 owner/lover... Wish I had a dollar for every non MSM owner that has told me that if you do this and change that on normal Miatas, that they will in fact be as quick or quicker than my MSM.... Of course if I change this and add that mine will be quicker too... So the debates rage on, gives us all something to talk about, and now as in the Mini world, there is a completely new version coming that folks can hate or love..debate about and point fingers at..

    Ain't we car folks a hoot?! :thumbup::D

It is actually what annoys me the most about car folks! I'm all about the banter between makes (Chevy vs Ford) or even classics vs modern, but the constant r53 vs r56 bs is just stupid to me. I've had both (well r55 instead of r56) and like/dislike aspects of both.

I'm not minimark and I don't know the Miata/MX-5 world well at all but I'd bet that someplace there is a stone tablet called The Wheel Slab where the owners of the first generation wheel are claiming it is still be best ever wheel.

Most the debates are good natured and shouldn't be taken too seriously, enjoy what ya like. Think of it a bit like there are millions of folks that love Football, but they will forever argue between which team is better, even whether college or pro is the best, tis part of the fun!!

Fact is that if we all liked exactly the same thing, we all would be driving exactly the same thing, now wouldn't that be boring?

But of course, those that really know, know the R53 is the best Mini ever....;)

I think it's interesting everyone focuses on the sports car model changes (WTF is the coupe, if not that) and not the last paragraph that mentions the addition of a MPV to the MINI lineup.

Wait for it... Oh well... I'll provide a quote of a future post:

I guess your right, I think I'm just going to take a sabbatical from MA for awhile because I find myself getting more frustrated with the threads I've been following.

When I stumble on a thread that irritates I move on. No sense reading the same stuff regurgitated 10 ways to Sunday.

Don't worry about the R53 vs R56 debate, soon the F56 will be taking all the heat.

Nah, it goes back even further than that. Wheels are still controversial to some, too "revolutionary", there is a group of zealots still focusing on the square versus rectangle debate.

Just my opinion but this is 100 times better looking than the F56. There is definitely some MINImal retro things happening here. I'd take one as long as there is a little "ummph" under the bonnet .

For me the R53 vs. R56 is all in good fun.
I have a 1953 Indian Chief. The old vs. new debate in that community is not in fun. I understand why. Several companies have bought the Indian name and secured with the community. All three of the recent companies have done the same thing. They buy the name and claim to be the original Indian company. Then they contact all the venders that have made parts to keep our old Iron running and threaten them if they don't want to pay royalties for selling parts for old bikes.
Polaris just a month ago started sending out the letters to our venders. Most of them are Mom and Pop shops that can't afford the percentage they are asking for. I don't care if the ask for a small fee for selling t-shirts but that’s not what’s up. Once again another company alienates the whole community.
The thing is most of us would embrace them if they did the right thing.

But back to the R53. I can't help its the good-looking one. :biggrin5::biggrin5:

The front end of the ACV30 looks like an old "bug eye" Sprite ... :)

The "no wheelers" will eventually come round, but the others have painted themselves into a corner. ;-)

I'm modern, me. I'm a great fan of round wheels.

But real men have external combustion (steam) engines - these sewing machines they are fitting to many horseless carriages will never catch on, I tells ya.

The thing is: a dedicated sports Mini does sound nice. One of my bugs with the Roadster is that even the simple things like changing the seats to lower the seating position hasn't been done. A lower centre of gravity would improve the car no end.

But..... a dedicated sports model with fairly low volumes is going to have to cost a lot more to recover its development costs. Do you like the idea of a sports Mini enough to pay $10,000 extra over the current Roadster/Coupé? That must be the sort of premium they would have to charge, with just the same power plant as the F56. That's going to make the low volumes even lower, isn't it?
