Gee wiz wmwny I said I wouldn't name names!:lol: I couldn't help myself. I couldn't pass up a chance to pull the chain of you auto guys!:D

Lin and Dave sorry to hear you've decided to give up the Bike but the top down on the Mini will be close to the same. I have an old Indian I'm putting together. I know its hard to get rid of the bike.

Glad your here its a fun site with lots of helpful people.

It's OK. You can name me...I am Jeff, wmwny, in here, and Welshmenwillnotyield, on the sewing site. I am a curmudgeon at heart.

Actually, while I really wanted an MCS at the time that I bought the R50, the dealer was all out of R53 6-speeds and the cvt was the only thing left. My wife does not drive a stick and said she would not EVER learn. So, I bought the R50 cvt with her in mind, in case our other car [HER automatic] ever broke down and she had to drive the MINI.

I LIKED driving the damned thing, though...nimble as all get out but really underpowered. All my friends at MOTD would leave me in a cloud of Dragon snert. So, after MOTD in 2006, I came home and bought my first MCSa...yep..."a" as in automatic. It's a far better tranny than the cvt......much better suited for twisties and track weekends.

Last year, I sold my wife's automatic behemoth and bought...YESSSS...GASP, ANOTHER '06 MCSa with 28k on it...this one is bonestock and is for HER alone. She loves it and cannot understand why it took so long for her to get behind the wheel of one.

Steph has impeccable taste in colors for MINIs. I'm kinda partial to Chili Red my own self. My 2nd choice would be Hyper Blue, but they forgot how to use that color.

    Back to topic...

Welcome aboard to the best and friendliest MINI forum/nuthouse on the web!

Being in central Arkansas, you're within striking range of the Tail of the Dragon. Pack a few bags, and do a road trip once the stifling heat subsides.

Keep an eye on the lower control arm bushings. They last 35000-50000 miles. If you replace them with Power Flex polyurethane bushings, you'll do it one time only. I really respect that you've done your own wrenching since 1954. I started in 1985, so you have 31 years experience on me! Everyone here doesn't do their own wrenching, but several of us do. A bonus here is those who don't turn wrenches don't look down their noses at those of us who do. Check out the Library. Lots of good info in there.

Nathan has a thread with a link to a BMW Site that allows you to type in your VIN and see all of your factory options. You might like that if you didn't get the window sticker.

    Again... Welcome aboard!!

Why would you say that, and what would make you even think it.

I think what he meant was that you may actually have a few tips for some of us with so many years of experience under your belt working on cars. :)

And I apologize for going on that tangent previously...I get distracted easily by pretty colors...

Thanks Stefanie, you are probably spot on. It is just that I get excited when words are directed to anyone by putting on the caps key. I do have a lot of experience in the automotive field. However, as the title of the thread should imply, this is our first go around with BMW and MINI. Basic knowledge of how automobiles do what they do, can get you a long way, and should never be overlooked. These cars, as you all know, are different. The Brits were always different, add to them the Germans and you are thinking outside of any ones box.

Red: No need to apologize for loving red. When I started the hunt for a MCSCa I was looking only for a red one. Then I showed Lin, on the net, an orange one. We then were looking for either, but only with the options that we wanted. It was almost like ordering a new 05 to 08. If I could have found the combo we got in red, I would have done it. Lin is happy the orange came up first. So win win.

    Thanks again,
    Lin and Dave

I'm 51 and have worked on cars/motorcycles since I was about 12. The best lessons I learned were taught by my stepfather. His father opened a Motorcycle store and it grew to a couple stores that sold a verity a things, mostly Motocycle Like Indian, Excelsior, and several other brands. But not Harleys we don't even say that name. I asks him to go to that brands shops once, I got in big trouble.:D. He worked at the shops before and after the war. He taught me the old was of doing things. Like you fix a part, when you can, not through it away(of course you never through anything away).
The MINI may be different but all the old ways still work(except it is a little more disposable). So your experience will be useful.

We are always ready to help and we never tell some to do a search for an answer. But I will worn you the ribbing and sarcasm can get pretty tough around here. Its all in good fun. I hope we get to meet you at one of the MINI events, like the Dragon.

    Oh I ment FR-S sorry Code3_Mini :biggrin5:
You should put a supercharger on that thing!

That's exactly what I meant. Unfortunately, it has been more than a day since I wrote that, and I forget things pretty quickly, so I had to go back and review what I wrote just to make sure. ;)

Hahaha...because I didn't want a red FR-S to overshadow Stef's little hot hatch. If both cars were red, the eyes would automatically go to the car that was bigger. And we both know her car is prettier than mine, so silver it is.

All my worst decisions were made at times I didn't seek your input first. I have learned from that and am working to correct it. Spray paint and hours of sanding it is.
