We are from a small town in Western, NY 30 mins south of the Watkins Glen track. I'm a Jeep Wrangler guy but my wife was looking for a fun, zippy car as our daughter is almost a teenager now. We drove a bunch of different vehicles until we test drove the Clubman and my wife was hooked. Here she is after her first true detail and 515 happy miles. And the other pic is after a trip to get ice cream at 518 miles after it decided to drop all its coolant in my driveway We heard the horror stories about issues so we decided to go for the BMW design even though it was a first year model. Hoping it's a quick fix and our dealer will take care of us. Hopefully we will get a lot more enjoyable motoring in after repair!
Thanks for the warm welcome! Hopefully this is not a sight I see too often with our MINI! Dealership called and they have a loaner available when I get there. So far so good with Service and the whole roadside assistance process.
Good luck with your repairs and Welcome to Motoring Alliance the onlyest MINI forum you'll ever need !!
Oh that will be a sight you see often. You purchased a brand new model and they have not worked the bugs out yet.
Welcome..... M/A can be fun, do not listen to Dave.0 unless you need expert detailing advice. Hope the issue with the coolant was an oversight at vehicle prep. More that one of us has had our MINI on the flatbed. Don
Ha thanks for the tip on Dave From reading the forums it looks like there was a good chance it would happen, maybe I'm just getting it out of the way early...haha. Loaner is a 16 Cooper Clubman non S. We never even drove one before we bought ours as wife knew she wanted turbocharged. Sure glad she got that the one she did, without the turbocharger it feels like every other small car on the road.
I had a new car flat bedded to the dealer once. I was riding with the driver and he said "watch this, they hate when a brand new car comes in on a flat bed". Evidently he had experience seeing this. hmmm
So my Mini dealer just called after they got done looking over the car. It appears the assembly line left an extra engine bolt laying on the top of the motor. Service said it was a special bolt that they recognized immediately when they pulled it out of the radiator All the bolts were in the car as needed so this was an extra. It must have finally shook loose after 500 miles. It dropped into the fan which thew it through the radiator hence dumping all my coolant. It needs a new radiator and cooling fan. Maybe done end of this week but probably by early next week. Must have been that factory worker on a Friday looking forward to his pint after work!!!!
Good thing you saw that coolant on the drive. It pays to pay attention, well done. That one missing cylinder is 500cc's so it's a big difference justa to S.
Just a quick update. Dealer called as they said they would this afternoon. Unfortunately the radiator is on national backorder because the vehicle is so new. The best case scenario is getting a radiator on 6/10 with a couple additional days for repairs. We also reached out to MINI about the situation and have been assigned a motoring specialist to review our case. NY Lemon Law says 30 days without your vehicle so we are on the clock right now.
