That's ugly.

Yep the valves stayed open too late so the question is what Cam was in place as the lift and duration has as much to do with it as the cam timing. That also appears to be the RMW head so would think somebody was trying to move the torque curve down but if they did indeed use a cam gear who timed it? With the way they broke in next door cylinders would have thought a hand turn would have caught it before the engine was started up.
I thought Jan sold them at one time. -

Or there was too much play in the chain.

I would be surprised if somebody that paid the money for a RMW head would be running a 250 duration Dominator Cam but rather something more like a 264 or 288 duration. Those last two would take advantage of the bigger vales. The stock oem cam has a 244 duration so the Dominator is not that aggressive relative to duration.
While on cams the other thing that should be noted is that if the cam "shaft" is standard, then anything with a lift of 0.400 or higher will contact the spark plug tube.
Last as the RMW cams are Newman cams, anybody that does business with them can most likely get all the information along with where the duration start point is. -

So the last three posts “guessing “ what went wrong to what happened to the head I posted are comple wrong.
This is why you can’t believe everything you read on the internet or 100% believe from a vendor.
This was an RMW Head that was abused and the owner never he never checked his oil. -
