Just finished a Saikou Michi Dual OCC install. Four big hoses make it really crowded and awkward to remove for draining. Then found out they offer a "Drain Extension Kit" --- hoses, brackets, and valves that connect to the OCC bottom drains. Bolt this somewhere underneath the car and draining your OCC is pretty easy. They offer at least one OCC, made special to fit the R56 engine bay. I suggest starting a dialog to establish your needs --- their on-line catalog leaves a lot to be desired.

I tried the single OCC and caps, but still had oil consumption. The dual OCC system keeps the OEM emission controls design intact, while removing oil vapors. Sure, my mods and driving habits are extreme, but I believe my oil consumption is finally under control. I'll know for sure after another month or so (1K miles) of driving.

Anyone interested in a slightly used BSH OCC, minus the hoses and external fittings? Make your own dual OCC system with two singles? First $50 paypal offer, via PM, and its yours!

    NM Catch can

I have one on my 2009 Clubby S. IT does what it is designed to do. I recommend you consider on; fairly easy to install.

:cornut: Margi(08 R56 BRG MCS/JCWm) has the BSH OCC and Dual Boost Tap which = the NM Eng OCC(comes with both). I must also say that Margi's at 76kmi an no carbon problems. NM Eng is top of the line and never to be sneezed at. Researching the internet, the only real difference that I can see is cost. BSH OCC and Dual Boost Tap ~ $240. NMEng OCC kit(includes dual boost tap) ~ $340. Take your pick. Me being poor and frugal well...............................................

I had a catch can on my 08 Audi A3. I was shocked the first time I drained it. There is a video on youtube showing a can being drained. I was skeptical at first until I drained mine...lol

Only issue, you have to drain them often. I found my can filling up every 10 to 15 days.

I had a 42 draft design can. They make great products. Not sure if they do mini's yet. It's identical to the BSH can.

I wonder if it would work on the N18??

I like the NM pcv block off plug. Unfortunately, NM won't sell that piece separately. I say get the NM can but can't go wrong with the BSH.

I've seen this position taken by several folks. Actually, this is one reason why I've not put in a can yet. My view to date has been that at some point I'll need to clean the valves anyway. I just bought all the stuff to do a walnut blast and I'll likely do it in the next 5-10,000 miles (I'm at 51K now). Just thinking about putting in a can before I do the cleanse thinking the can will make the next cleanse needed further down the road. For some crazy reason I plan on keep this MINI till I die as well as buying a second one as a DDer. Also, a few other folks in town are interested in doing a "club walnut blast" party at some point.

If I get one it would likely be the NM or saikoumichi. Still not decided. Thanks to everyone for the thoughts...if any more out there let me have it.

Don't forget to clean out your intercooler. I had quite a bit of slime in mine when I cleaned things up this winter. Some gasoline will eat up that oil film right away.

I've thought about making my own oil separator (OCC) with a stainless steel mesh coalescing element inside. It isn't that difficult to make something that works as well or better than a purchased unit - but making it look respectable and not like a science project is a bigger challenge. And to make it look professional would end up costing almost as much as buying one....

OK - now comes the next question... How are these OCC's emptied? Disconnect the hoses, remove the can and dump? I'd like to have a drain cock (OK no jokes... :D) at the bottom of the can with a length if hose to allow me to "pump" it out....

I had not known of Radium so this is another of the great benefits of membership in MA.... Info sharing.

The Saikou Michi dual can looks like a nice way to capture both PCV ports.

Very nicely done with the aluminum clamping collars (Graingers?) on the strut bar. My JCW bar - being oval on cross section - won't be that easy ...

On the NM Engineering one you unscrew the can from the bottom and remove to dump it. Not sure how cumbersome that is given where they install it.

    Thanks to everyone...great info.

Metalman, thanks for the great summary and pics, etc. I'll mull for awhile and decide. Whatever I do I'll post a final post if I find anything that might be of interest to others.

Once this is done I'll work on doing the Walnut blast...I think I have all the gear now.

:cornut: With the BSH on my Margi(08 R56 BRG MCS/JCWm), you pull out the dip stick from the top of the occ. Put the 50cc syringe with 6in rubber tubing together(supplied by BSH with occ) rubber parts lubed with appropriate lubricant. Insert hose to bottom of occ and suck out Dinosaur Snot. Depose of in accordance with Fed/Local regs. Put dipstick back in and motor on smartly. Always disassemble syringe and clean thoroughly as Dinosaur snot eats the rubber on the syringe. EASY!

    :cornut: Metalman that looks GREAT!

:cornut: Syringe from the top on a BSH is so much easier.

:cornut: No. You just unknowingly broke a Fed. Air Quality Reg. No harm done unless you brag about it to a Fed or tree hugger. The was PCV back before the 'Air Police' came into being.

I've been contemplating a dual but was concerned about the available real estate under the bonnet.

    Pictures please?
