OK - now comes the next question... How are these OCC's emptied? Disconnect the hoses, remove the can and dump? I'd like to have a drain cock (OK no jokes... :D) at the bottom of the can with a length if hose to allow me to "pump" it out....

I had not known of Radium so this is another of the great benefits of membership in MA.... Info sharing.

The Saikou Michi dual can looks like a nice way to capture both PCV ports.

Most come with a little shut off drain valve in the bottom.... Any way you try... They are almost impossible to reach...

My OCC is attached to my strut bar... I completely remove mine with 4 cap screws and disconnect the two hoses...

I collect my snot in clear plastic water bottles and mark the date (probably should add the milage)... After a while the liquid settles out and you can see the oil and water condensate as the two separate...

I elect to then add soap to the can and do a good cleaning with hot water to keep all the perforations open... Not too efficient if they all get plugged with gunk....

The whole procedure takes about 30 minutes....

Very nicely done with the aluminum clamping collars (Graingers?) on the strut bar. My JCW bar - being oval on cross section - won't be that easy ...

On the NM Engineering one you unscrew the can from the bottom and remove to dump it. Not sure how cumbersome that is given where they install it.

    Thanks to everyone...great info.

Metalman, thanks for the great summary and pics, etc. I'll mull for awhile and decide. Whatever I do I'll post a final post if I find anything that might be of interest to others.

Once this is done I'll work on doing the Walnut blast...I think I have all the gear now.

:cornut: With the BSH on my Margi(08 R56 BRG MCS/JCWm), you pull out the dip stick from the top of the occ. Put the 50cc syringe with 6in rubber tubing together(supplied by BSH with occ) rubber parts lubed with appropriate lubricant. Insert hose to bottom of occ and suck out Dinosaur Snot. Depose of in accordance with Fed/Local regs. Put dipstick back in and motor on smartly. Always disassemble syringe and clean thoroughly as Dinosaur snot eats the rubber on the syringe. EASY!

    :cornut: Metalman that looks GREAT!

:cornut: Syringe from the top on a BSH is so much easier.

^^^ thanks for the syringe info. That makes good sense and is probably super easy too. :)

I have the BSH can. To drain it, just unscrew the bottom plug. I use a small funnel w/hose attach and drain to catch pan under engine. (like changing oil)

Don't rely on the syringe removal method too much... Especially in the colder northern areas of the country....

The OCC will catch an emulsion byproduct that's made up of oil and water that's been commingled and looks and feels like dirty mayonnaise or white lithium grease..... You can see this to certain extent collected under the oil cap on the valve cover in the winter. This stuff will also be caught on the filtering discs inside the OCC.... Dipping the syringe past these discs to collect the liquid in the bottom of the can doesn't remove the mayonnaise..... The only way is to remove the OCC and give it a good flushing with hot water and soap to emulsify the stuff off the collection filters.... This thorough cleaning is needed more frequently in the winter and less frequently or perhaps never in the warm summer months....

I went brain dead after I emptied my BSH catch can and forgot to to plug it. I drove for two days before I noticed my brainfart. I checked oil level which was fine but did I do any damage?

:cornut: No. You just unknowingly broke a Fed. Air Quality Reg. No harm done unless you brag about it to a Fed or tree hugger. The was PCV back before the 'Air Police' came into being.

Just finished a Saikou Michi Dual OCC install. Four big hoses make it really crowded and awkward to remove for draining. Then found out they offer a "Drain Extension Kit" --- hoses, brackets, and valves that connect to the OCC bottom drains. Bolt this somewhere underneath the car and draining your OCC is pretty easy. They offer at least one OCC, made special to fit the R56 engine bay. I suggest starting a dialog to establish your needs --- their on-line catalog leaves a lot to be desired.

I tried the single OCC and caps, but still had oil consumption. The dual OCC system keeps the OEM emission controls design intact, while removing oil vapors. Sure, my mods and driving habits are extreme, but I believe my oil consumption is finally under control. I'll know for sure after another month or so (1K miles) of driving.

Anyone interested in a slightly used BSH OCC, minus the hoses and external fittings? Make your own dual OCC system with two singles? First $50 paypal offer, via PM, and its yours!
