So the other day I started up my MINI and noticed right away that my instrumentation reading was in Litres/Km (for those who are not metrisized that's the Canajun way of saying mpg, sort of). I also noticed that only the driver's side door was unlocked, whereas I have the computer set to unlock all 3 doors when I press the unlock button on the key fob.

I thought at first my wife was having fun with me, but I quickly ruled that out. I emailed a MINI tech and he mentioned something about if the car is idle for lengthy periods of time that the OBC may reset some things to a default state, similar to when the battery is disconnected. Its part of some power saving mode.

During the summer I'm driving once each week for about 10 miles total (just to the hockey rink and back). The rest of the time I'm on my bike.

Has this happened to anybody else?

I've had it happen in our Clubman

when CAN based stuff is left connected to the OBD-II diagnostic connector. The car doesn't like being asked for stuff a bunch when it's off. Calls a buss fault and this is the result.

It's summer. If I play more than once weekly, I'll have a lot worse problems on the homefront than my OBC =)

Ah yes, summer north of the 49th, when the ice is slow, and the sledding is fair to middlin.

    It means....

that stuff plugged into the OBD port can do just what you describe. Takes a couple hours for it to happen.

So it was probably 6 weeks ago that the JCW Stage 1 tune was done, did they leave something behind that I should look for?

Your right, the Arctic Ocean is north of the 49th. But the Canada/US border mostly follows the 49th parallel, and there is a HUGE landmass from there to the Arctic Ocean, home to Canajuns:Thumbsup:

Oh, I thought you were talking about the 49th state. Now I got it. I've been to Canada three times and liked it. I also like their TV shows like the (now fefunked) "Due South" and the current "Flash Point"

Use to have this with mine. Not a daily driver and sometimes not even once a week. 10 miles a week even at freeway speeds is not enough to maintain the battery. Get a Battery Tender.

The car will shutdown if the battery voltage gets too low. Sometimes causing the OBC to reset. Doesn't always reset the OBC and most of the time mine would just loose the clock/date and trip meter/mpg/averages. But a few times it has reset the OBC settings.

Also make sure you're using the same key fob. Each one gets it's own settings.

Amazon has decent prices on the Jr model. The Jr is enough although it might take overnight when you initially hook it up depending how low the battery is. Jr and regular are the same except for the amount of charge they put out during the charging stage.
