Sorry to come back after a long absence with bad news, guys, but I know you'll appreciate (and sympathize with) this: As you may have heard, Bob Forsbloom (who took over for Eric a few years' back) recently had a bad garage fire, which resulted in the TOTAL LOSS of several classic British cars, including at least one Bug-Eye and an (uninsured) Morris Minor. My 1275 engine, which was in for a complete rebuild/uprating, was amongst the wreckage, and was, apparently, burnt to a crisp. ARGH!!!! Bob's working with Mini7 to quote out a replacement engine, but I'm still very sad and upset at the loss... I'm also quite frustrated, as the replacement cost of a new engine built to similar specs (.20-overbored with new tranny) will run me around $6k. Damn it. --Matt
It's really terrible to see the loss from this fire. I feel bad for you and all the others who were affected by this.
Bob mentioned insurance, but he also was talking about all the labor and parts that he had into the rebuild (it was nearly complete). MY insurance said that his should cover the "real cash value" of a "like replacement", but since it's a classic (a 1976) AND it was being up-rated/customized from stock, I'm expecting that the insurance will put up a big fight about the whole thing. I just wanted my *&^%$! engine back so I can drive.
It sounds like this guy will try to do right for ya. I don't know them personally, but I've read good things about them.
Matt I'm very sorry to hear that your engine was in the shop. FWIW Bob is a good person & I'm sure he will do right by you. Let me know if there is any way I can help.
OK, looks like I misunderstod him: he's insured and it should cover the replacement of one (1) working late-model 1275 engine, carb, manifold, etc. No idea how long it will take to get a quote on how much $ that will be - a rebuilt non-uprated 1275 goes for about $6k shipped at 7Enterprises, so it would be NICE if they covered that, but something tells me it ain't gonna be that easy...
Sorry to hear about this. Good luck! I hope the insurance pays out so you aren't stuck with 6K :frown5:
Whole thing, top to bottom. Think the only thing I had at home was the thermostat housing, fan, and externals.
