They'll remember again whenever the fines are levied or if any other manufacturer is thrown under the same bus because the news folk will crank up the sirens again. Plus I'm betting the loyal VW customers (or previously loyal, as the case may be) are watching for news.

Let us not forget all those who lost their lives driving Ford Explorers with tire pressure spec'd low for a good comfortable ride. Until the tires failed That is.

VW is going to prop up the price of used diesels.

VW will guarantee the value of certified pre-owned and other used VWs with 2.0-liter diesel engines containing the illegal emissions software in dealer inventory, at prices seen before Sept. 18, when the EPA announced VW’s violations. If any of those vehicles stay in dealer inventory for 60 days or longer, VW will offer to buy them back from dealers.

Yes but instead of increasing the turbulence of the air before the throttle they're trying to calm it, straighten it as it were......the opposite of what the Tornado folks were supposedly doing.

VW's is like a Ginsu that cuts the air into little cubes that can be consumed moar easily by the little diesel lump.

It was those rogue engineers that did it...

    Yes he knew. :yesnod:

And on another note Ford knew people would burn to death in their Pinto's, but decided it was cheaper to pay the families of victims rather than fix the issue. The same issue affects Crown Vic's today. GM knew they had a faulty ignition switch that led to deaths, their fix was to ignore it. I think all car companies have skeletons in their closet. My take is what VW did was brilliantly stupid, but it didn't cost lives.

One could argue the point. It may not of created the instant fiery death a rear ended Pinto caused. Or the shrapnel laden Takata airbag explosion slicing an artery.

But one could argue that VW is slowly killing us all with increased emissions.

Oh the horrors, who will save the butterfly from succumbing to death by a VW engine created particle.

One could make the same argument about your beloved Gnat. I for one like my air clean, but for my money what VW has done is being blown out of proportion. I likes my flutterbys too.

I get more of a chuckle with the Mitsubishi hack with pumping up their tires to reduce the rolling resistance.... That's golden....

Who needs complicated German ECU defeat programs.... We'll do it with air.... No harm to the environment... Butterfly's are safe...

I thought that was pretty funny about the Mitsubishi air too. I drove in an economy run years ago in my Fire Arrow aka Mitusbishi Celeste. I pumped the tires up to 60 psi & hyper-miled like a lunatic. My score was 89.9 mpg. Good for second place, first place was an Olds Cutlass at 92 mpg.

Mitsubishi expects $1.4 billion loss after mileage cheating.....

Seems like all they would need to do is let a little air out of the tires and print new gas mileage window stickers...:p
