Something to think about.... Machine your own billet aluminum hose fittings. You can drop buying the brass fittings.... You can eliminate the tapping of the pipe threads.... You still need to drill the two holes (but you would anyway for the pipe threads). Press fit the billet hose fittings into the can and tig weld from the inside of the canister (assuming there's room). Clean all billet look... Anyway just my $0.02 worth...
Actually being a CNC machine shop we dont weld, so that leaves the welding out. If I have to out source then the price goes up. All great ideas. However I utilize the same can for 10 different platforms. If I have to customize a Can for a different platform "Mini"then the price goes up. I'm able to keep my pricing down compared to others because of the other platforms we already make them for. Hope that makes sense. As for machining the fittings. It would actually cost me more to machine them, then to buy them. Crazy right? But its true.. Thanks for the feed back Much appreciated..
Here is some stuff we have done in the past.. [ame="http://s84.photobucket.com/albums/k19/newtie31/"]Pictures by newtie31 - Photobucket[/ame]
I've seen everything covered here but one REALLY important one.... What about the folks who have their factory alarm system mounted right where you are mounting the catch can?!?! Just my 2 cents.
4 Hose vs 2 Hose OCCs :cornut:What ever happened to the oil catch catch can with 2 ingress and 2 egress tubes? I went to 'Billettechnology.com' and there is no 4 hose oil catch can as was alluded to in the above posts. Does any one know what happened to that idea/technology? Is it unnecessary or what, any one know? Just thought that I'd ask as several of us have bought the 2 hose BSH OCC from Defenders Of Speed recently. Hopefully DOS will come up and 'splain all this on us.' Jason (see: 'new thread' on above post)
:cornut: After a lot of research(BSH,42 Stealth OCC,WayMotorWorks,Billet Technology, sewing site, many others), it appears that BSH has solved the 4 hose problem with their 'Dual Boost Port/Tap'. Installing it with the BSH OCC makes both crank case and valve cover gases/oil/dinosaur snot go through the OCC, et viola, cleanest intake air possible. So I also ordered the Dual Boost Port/Tap. This is my(not a trained gear head) opinion after much reading Jason
Any photos or installation instructions PDF available? I'd like to see what it looks like with the dual tap.
Remove Old Port, Install BSH Dual Boost Tap :cornut: PLEASE PLEASE tell me how to get the OEM port off such that I can install my BSH Dual Boost Tap. I can install the new BSH Dual Boost Tap(I think) if I can just GET THE #$&%*%$ OEM PORT OFF! Once some one has told/shown me how to do this, BOY will I have a good 'friggin' story for the "FRIGGIN THREAD" of our very own agranger. Jason
It attaches to the rigid PCV hose at the left rear part of the valve cover (just makin sure you know where you are pointing). Look closely and you will find a plastic ring. You will need to squeeze the ring in order to disengage the locking tabs (use you finger and thumb and not a pair of pliers or you could snap the plastic). It works much like those tops you squeeze to open a container of aspirin. You may need to work at it because it can be stubborn.....
:drool DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MM :cornut: you're a Gentleman and a Scholar Sir and there are damned few of us left although there seem to be quite a few on the MA site. Jason
NM Engineering has joined the fray and is now offering their version of the OCC..... Mark..... I'll bet it'll look sweet on your new black stealth coupe....... NM Eng. Billet Aluminum Catch Tank : NM Engineering
:cornut: Thanks for the update MM. NM's Can and Block off valve strengthens the argument for one can with block off vs 2 cans. Margi's(08 R56 MCS/JCWm) BSH valve/can system gets emptied(syringe through the top or via valve/hose through the bottom) every 200mi or so of 1-2oz of 'dinosaur snot'. Myself, I would not try to recommend NM over BSH or vice versa, take your pick. The NM product wasn't available when I purchased the BSH valve/can from Defenders Of Speed.(for an incorrigable MINI OCD like me, it's one more thing that we can do to feed our addiction):lol: Jason
I called Billet Technologies on Friday to check on the availability of the MINI OCC. They had such poor response they never produced any after the first batch or two. However, they are about to setup to run more OCC's and if you call and get on the list, they will produce MINI OCCs to fulfill any requests. You have about 2 weeks. The site address is billettechnology (dot) com.
I'm a big fan of many of the NM products and this looks to be another good one. Will get one installed in the next few weeks. :cornut::cornut::cornut:
