Marc is asking if there could be problem in getting the engine up to temp, or even keeping the engine at a high enough temp in cold weather/climates if:
    1. you install an oil cooler, and
    2. your oil cooler system does NOT have a t-stat

I agree with that assessment. I believe it is important to ensure your oil cooler system has a T-stat. The 180 deg T-stats I saw on Earl's seem to be the proper threshold.

    Cooler location

So, why did you initially select this location and not in the front lower grill area as recommended by RMW, Madness, etc. ??

NASCAR and F1 normally see around 240-250 temps. while racing.

Not sure it really has any bearing on our situation, as I am sure we don't have access to there oils anyway.......:D

Got your point Nitro, even though you were exaggerating a bit. :D
Sure another heat exchanger sitting in front will pre-heat the air to the AC, then heat more before it hits the coolant radiator. Given, that there are trade-offs required.......definitely not optimal. However, I would contend that having an oil cooler mounted in the front is better for the engine than not having one at all.

Yeah, but if you take 20-30 degrees out of the oil it eases the burden on the water cooling I'd imagine too. So losing a little efficiency in the radiator is not as big a hit. Then if mitigate some of that by opening the middle grille area some allowing air to flow into the center of radiator you gain back some of the loss, I would think.

The angle here is not the best but it shows the opening that has been cut out. Sorry, i have no empirical data it did anything.

It's that old theorem that for every mod another mod of equal or greater cost and complexity is required to make the most of the first mod.

This is the only other pic I have of that area. It's not much better.

Nathan, new scoop with your old OEM hood I see. Is that the Voltage sccop or the M7? Can't tell from this pic.

That was bit of kit that was cobbled together from stuff laying about so I could do a track day when the front end was ripped off when i was forced off the road.

    Lynn,

Are you asking for absolution? If so, just say a few Hail Mary's and throw a couple of bucks in the collection plate. Works every time for me...........

I think I'd rather not be in that car if something runs into the front bumper...

Sorry, there are just some areas I don't cut.
