Ok, it seems about average as there is no thermostat and the heat exchanger is tube in fin. The write-up claims MINIs coming off the track with 300+ degree oil temps, but does not indicate how much better it was measured with this kit. Also, is there an accommodation for an oil temp and press sensor/sending unit?
Yea......it seems at this point the Madness (unfortunately) unit is the best option with an added thermostat.

Ok, great suggestion on the Cravenspeed tapless adapter! So is the existing sending unit for pressure and for OBD input... I am guessing? So, what if you wanted an oil pressure gauge as well as an oil temp gauge??? 1. Do you have to daisy chain these things together? Having 2 of these things stacked does not seem like a neat and tidy, or reliable install. 2. Is it unneccessary to want both, just get a pressure gauge? It seems like this location would be best for oil pressure, and temp would be in the pan, or some other more cetrally located spot. I realize that oil pressure is directly related to the oil temp, but if you are adding an oil cooler, wouldn't you want to measure the temp directly as well?
So, what kind of gauge did you get and mounted where? Show us a quick pick please. Slightly off-topic, definitely but related.
Ok, a double tap CravenSpeed would work, but still not the best location for temp as it is not exactly getting a nice flow right there. You will get a measurement for sure, and definitely way better than nothing, which is what I have today. However, it will be more of an RMS value, meaning you will miss any spikes in temp up or down. For example a cold rush of air flow over an oil cooler would not be measured for minutes later on the gauge and only as a slight dip. Still, a double tap might be my first location for an install, thanks for the solution.
This is great for the pressure gauge, but the OEM temp gauge is my suggestion. It replaces the drain pan plug with an electric sending unit. Anyone have a suggestion for a t-stat for this or the Madness cooler?
Post #8 has no info on a T-stat.......just that you used one. :nonod: Found no price on the Earls one..........do you have a guess on price?
Thanks Nathan, well not cheap but an important component of the system for street cars, or cars that pull double duty street/track. So, does anyone have this t-stat, and if so, where did you mount it? I am thinking closer to the engine as opposed to closer to the cooler, especially if you will be utilizing for temp and pressure sending units. I think I will skip the flow sending unit.
So the best bang for the buck system seems to be the Moss MINI Cobalt set-up with the t-stat. Not much modding needed and it comes with the adapter plate replacing the questionable OEM oil cooler.
I installed an Oil Pressure gauge. My car is at home (In college) I will be back on the 10th and will snap a picture when i switch out exhausts.
Just subscribing to this thread. This is good info. I was at summit point on may 9th and was hitting temps of 275+ on track and had to back off a bit while running a gear higher to lower the revs. I need info on an oil cooler set up that'll be ok for daily driver. Winter here in the DC Metro area can get cold. Need to find a set-up before october, I've got 2 days in millville nj. But the sooner the better, that means I can just get back on track sooner.
I'm sorry, I want a LOT more protection than that for the lifeblood of my engine. One good off at the track and I'm leaving a trail of oil and pissing off a lot of other drivers.
Yes, of course it was an oil pressure gauge, you stated that in the previous post. I was wondering what Manufacturer/model did you get. I know the tapless adapter is from CravenSpeed. The spring semester should be long done by now, get back home and snap a few pics.
