Hey all, my Brother just sent me some pictures of an oil leak that has shown up on his MINI. It looks to me to be coming from the trans or maybe some where higher up and leaking down. I have not had a chance to look at it in person but thought I would post up a couple of pictures to get other opinions. Thanks in advance for any insight, Jason.

Oh, it is a '08 MCS with arount 52,000 miles.

That looks pretty nasty! If it's not leaking from the transmission, is the oil filter torqued in properly? It's kind of above that area.

Belt tensioner coming loose is a common cause of oil leaks.

Any pictures of the top of the engine? I had a timing chain tensioner bolt back out and in caused a leak. There was oil up by the cylinder-head cover as well.

If not, only way to tell is to clean it up and watch where it forms.

Yep. That's a pretty gnarley leak. Time to clean the engine well and then see where the drops start to form before it gets this bad.

I looked at it over the weekend, and it appears to be coming from the oil line for the turbo. The one that comes out of the block. I checked the tensioner and didn't see any leakage there. He is taking it to the dealer on Monday for the water pump recall, so they will check it out as well. Thanks for all the good advice.

So yup, ended up being the turbo oil lines (Thanks k-huevo!). No goodwill fix from the Dealer even though he is only a couple thousand miles out of warranty.

I just talked to him and told him to log a complaint with Mini USA and NHTSA.
