I was shown this article about something that happened last weekend. Sounds like traffic fine revenue is down a bit in Ontario. I feel pain for our fellow motorers in Ontario. Ontario Provincial Police collars MINI convoy part 1
OPP hit MINI Charity Cruise with speeding tickets More can be read about this HERE:The Garage ? The Garage: Your daily dose of automotive news, reviews and motorsports coverage HERE:Southern Ontario MINI Club HERE:A News Video Video on the actual day has been removed, but footage used in first story of the newscast for Monday April 26th
And now I have merged it for you. Few comments: A few years back OPP stood for something else. Who's down with OPP? Why would you guys let the cops know you were coming?
Thanks Dude... Long story short, we have done this run for 5 years and as a curtsey seeing we have had 30+ MINI's involved have always felt it was better to inform the local constabulary of our intentions to avoid unnecessary situations such as this...and for 4 years running a spring and fall cruise we had no issues! What changed this time round is beyond anyone...and the organizers have gotten nowhere with getting answers. :mad2:
Honestly I have no idea... There are RED FLAGS all over this situation...and unfortunately for whatever reason the cars that were not MINI's that were travelling in the convoy and driving faster than the MINI's were let go and not pulled over. But it made for good TV...right?
In the Vancouver area, the police have been known to participate and support events if for nothing else but to have a presence and prevent street racing or anything else that might endanger the public. They even bring their own car.
I hope our buds on the Dragon this week are vigilant. Keep in mind, Tennessee and North Caroline know of this event. Money is low in everyones government coffers, so tickets are an easy income. After all, a lot of money just got spent to do road repair in the area.:cryin:
So if someone from Cali got a ticket in NC, how long would that someone be able to go without paying?
With Cali plates, they might be gracious enough to let you run your credit card through their portable machine right there on the spot, so you aren't inconvenienced. I'm sure they have had courses on how to be friendly to "out-of-state", money lugging, tourists. It's probably not their first day on the job patrolling the Dragon.
My buddy, driving my car, did pay his $75 highway toll for the Idaho Highways improvement project last month....I hope.
After seeing this, I'm keeping the details of our club's Waco Run secret until the end, then sending everything out flash-mob style...
