I start a spreadsheet with every vehicle I own that is broken down into 2 main sections: The first is repairs/maintenance. The second is mods/upgrades. I just updated RYU's yesterday. It amazes me how fast it grows and how slow I check off stuff I've done :mad2: Anyone else have this or a similar practice?
Sort of? I have a smartphone app that tracks maintenance / costs. I built a separate spreadsheet to cover "enhancements". I got a lot of them checked off before delivery (lots of boxes of stuff waiting for a MINI!). Not much left: winter tires. Summer wheel/tire set. Some killer audio upgrade. "Not much left". I've heard those are famous last words
At one point I had an Excel file that I called my Divorce Sheet... It tracked the expense for all of my mods. If I ever wanted my wife to divorce me, I'd leave it on the desktop for her to find and open. I've got a little leather notebook (In Cordoba Beige, to match the interior ) where I document every oil change, wiper blade refill and even fuel fill-up. I bought it a few days before I placed my order for Jango back in 2005 and made notes about the order/delivery process and most of the various MINI events I've been to.
Heh..I guess I should title mine "Why I'm still single" I to have an excel workbook that is broken down in to various pages. Mods, Maint Expense, Broken Stuff, Tires and Fuel. I've pretty much tracked every item, where it came from, what it cost, how long it's lasted.
You guys may have me beat in maintenance stuff... although I do have a folder of "everything I do" receipts in my filing cabinet. Luckily the hubby is a car enthusiast too and has me beat 10 fold on what he spends on his toys :cornut:
Excel spreadsheet to track maintenance and mod costs and complete fuel log with graphs for mileage (mpg), 5 fill avg. mileage, cum mileage and fuel cost per mile.
I'm also making the move away from paper files at home... I'm 1/2 way through scanning all of the instruction books, maintenance receipts, etc into NeatWorks. When I sell Jango, the next owner will get a CD in the glove box!
I keep a maintenance log on all our cars. Any mods are noted to the maintenance log as they are done.
I use an excel spreadsheet as well, mods and maintenance are all together. Never thought to include a column for price though. I still have all the receipts, but would be afraid to add them up.
I used to maintain a notebook, but switched to an excel file. It's pretty basic: date, mileage, and a notes field. I keep everything all together, but after reading this thread I may add a category field for maintenance and mods. Cost could be interesting, but might be depressing.
I just drive my car. LOL I don't keep track of everything I spend on him (which hasn't been too much. Just gas and tires)
