I changed my mind. Dave O. did it. This is the only website that has steadfastly refused to ban him; it's resulted in so much indignation that he's gone to extremes.

Since Nathan is using 3.8.2, maybe the attackers were checking to see how far back their hacks work...Read below..

That is NOT at all related.

That issue allows the hacker to get the database from the site. This site never was open to that issue and to be proactive I've added another layer of protection to prevent such an issue.

All of my vBulletin site passwords have been changed to ones that are darn hard to crack too. They never were the same as the passwords I have for this site.

The sad part is at first vBulletin management (Internet Brands) denied there was a hack till it was put in their face. It still took them 4 days to do anythign about it too.

This all makes my head spin and my brain ache. If I were a hacker, what could I possibly do with Dave.O's personal information?

Well you could try and access his banking. Many people often use the same or slight variation of a password for all their accounts.

Best practice I find is to have unique passwords for each site you visit that requires a log in. That password should at a minimum be 12 characters with a mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters.

I know it is a pain in the ass to do this, but it is more of a pain to have your banking info hacked because you used a similar PW for everything.

I have 100's of passwords. To keep track I use Password Safe kept on an encrypted drive that requires a YubiKey to access.

That was our fault. The dude at the hosting company fat fingered an IP. It's gonna take up to 48 hours for that to stop for everyone. Gotta wait on propagation across the web.
