Just a shot in the dark, but I think Genik is in Greece. Probably not many MINI specialists there.

I know you specifically and some others are not trying to be rude, but im gathering many opinions thats why i ask a lot. Unfortunately i've been disappointed by many techs (believe me you wouldn't want to be in my shoes) thats why since i'm taking decisions on my own i have to check and double check!
Regarding the HPFP i believe i was right, so you cant say im just changing parts!
Regarding the Throttle valve, techs straight away suggested on replacing it! By asking around (you guys too) led me to think that the Throttle valve might not be the issue, but it could be carbon. In a few days i will know for sure if those errors (P1637 and P1638) appeared due to carbon build up.
If im right, it means that it was well worth asking around again and again, if im not, ok then guys, you can crucify me! :biggrin5:

    Genik...
Mini DID do a few changes on timing to prevent carbon buildup...even on the n18...not sure if you got the updates, but I bet you would not be happy...less aggressive timing means it runs like a dog....
Many folks complained about loss of power, car feeling doggy after updates...
So I would suggest that you just budget the $300 for a once every 4-5 year cleaning, and enjoy the car!!! Rather than a $1200 timing belt, you get a $300 carbon blasting (don't get me started on the crappy mini timing chain....different thread.

I've had two different guys I used to work with call and ask advice, which I always offered graciously. I found out later, that on occasion, they'd call someone else in another station and ask the same questions of them. My ensuing phone calls of the questioners weren't diplomatic in the least...

Would there be any chance these codes could be because of a bad HPFP?

Is the failure of the throttle positioning motor a common issue for the R56S?

So, you have throttle errors and fuel rail pressure error. Sounds like that is where you should look.

Could be as simple as a clogged injector. Had that on my kids CRV. Stuttering. Can't keep it running. In the end it was a fuel injector.

My main concern is, how should the technician begin to diagnose correctly, because most just have the tendency to start changing stuff. But this method -to change stuff until the problem stops- can mean a lot of wasted money!

I just replaced the HighPressureFuelPump but the Throttle valve errors (1637, 1638) are still there. If its the Throttle valve, maybe i need to fix it, maybe clean it someway. has anyone got an idea on how to do this?

How would carbon be related with the Throttle errors?

Well since you won't tell us where you are located and you don't want to spend any money you probably use cheap gas and change your oil every 15 thousand miles.

So your car needs to be maintained. Change the oil, run top tier 93 octane fuel, try some fuel injector cleaner, and get the carbon blasted from your car. Get you car scanned for codes and reset the adaptive's. You have to spend some money to keep things in good running condition.

If you cannot do basic maintenance for a car a MINI is not for you. Maybe you should look into a Toyota or Honda.
