    Genik...
Mini DID do a few changes on timing to prevent carbon buildup...even on the n18...not sure if you got the updates, but I bet you would not be happy...less aggressive timing means it runs like a dog....
Many folks complained about loss of power, car feeling doggy after updates...
So I would suggest that you just budget the $300 for a once every 4-5 year cleaning, and enjoy the car!!! Rather than a $1200 timing belt, you get a $300 carbon blasting (don't get me started on the crappy mini timing chain....different thread.

    1. What does "runs like a dog" mean?
    2. How does one get the update? Is it software?
    3. I hadnt heard that bmw did this to fix an issue, THE ISSUE of the n14 engine! Im wondering, if it was something official, that would fix the problem without any side effects, wouldn't bmw offer this to all of its clients as a good will in fixing the carbon build problem?

Genik, you've asked the same questions and received the same advise on two different MINI forums that I've seen, yet you continue to resist the help people are providing you. GET IT WALNUT BLASTED

I've had two different guys I used to work with call and ask advice, which I always offered graciously. I found out later, that on occasion, they'd call someone else in another station and ask the same questions of them. My ensuing phone calls of the questioners weren't diplomatic in the least...
