    VW calipers are the same way. That is awesome that you did that. I ruined a set of VW rear calipers trying to do the same. I ended up powdercoating the carriers and painting the calipers, but I really wish I could have powdercoated everything.

    The fronts are easy to do and I would recommend it. I used a bicycle pump to pump air into the line and pop the cylinder out. Once that is done, there is a rubber seal inside that needs to be removed along with the boot. Remove anthing else that is attached and the caliper is ready. For the carrier, remove the rubber boots for the guide pins and it is done. The shop will prep and powder coat. I can't really rember what i paid since it was mixed in with a bunch of other parts, but is around $100. Once you get them back, you put all the new parts back on and slide the piston back in. You end up with great looking brakes with all new seals. Here is the result on my GTI:
