The luxurious Peninsula Hotels in New York and Chicago are thinking "mini" when it comes to hotel limousine service.

This week, the hotels will introduce chauffeur-driven Mini Cooper cars fully decked for the hotels - just in time for the holiday shopping season.

That Minis are finished in "Peninsula Green," contain mini refrigerators for drinks and cold towels, and feature iPod and iPhone connections so guests can play their own tunes.

The chauffer won't have a problem loading a guest's purchases into the tiny auto, thanks to a storage box mounted on the rooftop.

Guests who book a suite will have free access to the cars for up to three hours per day, whether for sightseeing or for shopping expeditions.

Both of the hotels have developed specific tours, as well. In New York, you could choose from a trip to the Cloisters museum on the northern tip of Manhattan or a shopping tour of the Meatpacking District. In Chicago, you could tour the city to see spots where famous movie scenes were shot or tour neighborhoods.

Peninsula first rolled out Minis at its Hong Kong hotel last December. The Tokyo hotel will receive its Minis in January. If you're in New York this Thursday, you'll be able to catch a glimpse of them in front of the hotel (Fifth Avenue at 55th Street) at 6:30 p.m. at an official unveiling.
