I don't even bother with a detector any more since I live in VA. With the instant on Radar and laser once you get an indication it's too late anyway, unless you catch the emissions from them shooting at a car ahead of you. Several years ago I got popped by a radar detector detector on the road between Richmond and home. Got the ticket, and he wouldn't let me leave until I disabled the unit. Don't remember the brand, but I had had it built in on the car and all components hidden so you couldn't see anything except from the drivers seat. It was handy when I was traveling a lot before retiring from the USAF. Disabling it was a PITA so I never bothered with it again. These days I set the cruise at +5 and go with that on the highways, unless the traffic is flowing faster. Then, I will run with the pack and just make sure there is someone out in front of me. Coming back from the Dragon on I-40 the traffic was running at 80-85 at times so we made pretty good time. Even with a couple of rest stops we got home 15 minutes before the Garmin said we would. YMMV Also curious about your mishap Dave.
My V1 was working fine I was distracted and ignored the alert (Not texting or on the phone) and got pinged with instant on Radar because I was passing a pack of cars at 9:00 am on Sunday. He was hiding down low in the tall grass on an on ramp behind very large rocks. Lets just say I was going fast :ihih:  in a 70 mph zone. FYI anything over 80 MPH is reckless driving in VA. No fine was put on the ticket but a court date was along with another charge. The highest it could be is $2500.00 but that will not happen. My attorney will take care of it so I am not worried and VA point do not even come back to my PA driving record.
I hate when that happens. Instant on is often an instant ticket. Glad the points don't transfer to PA.
The only way to beat instant on is like vetsvette said above " unless you catch the emissions from them shooting at a car ahead of you". That is why I run in a pack most times and have always caught it way early just like lasers. It was my fault for ignoring it when it went off. By the time he got to me and I pulled over my V1 was gone and my seat belt was on and I had all my paperwork for him. I fully pulled off the road and rolled down my dark tinted windows and placed the keys on the dash. When your caught, your caught. I was respectful (yes Sir, no Sir) gave him my FOP card but he did not care and wrote me up for the max. It was 9:00 am and it was the start of his shift to fill his quota. I am not worried about the points or fine, whatever it is, I was wrong but I do have an attorney to take care of the court appearance and huge fine. I will not have to show up and whatever the MAX fine, it will be lowered.
Yup, I have no problem paying the speed tax. :cornut: One thing that always bothers me at the Dragon is the MINI Wave. People stop being idiots and waving on Hellbender and the Dragon ! :incazzato::mad2: It is MOTD and we all have MINI's you don't have to wave at everyone effing MINI you see when driving on those roads. The Dragon and even Hellbender require 100% of your attention and driving skill, so stop being idiots and waving to every MINI you see. :mad5::mad5::incazzato: The life and car you could be saving is your own. I don't wave because I am looking two cars ahead of me at the next turn and staying on my side of the yellow line. Many of you idiots cross the line every turn and don't even know it. Put two hands on the wheel and drive under control with 100% of your limited attention and skill. Save the Wave for Fontana not the Dragon and Hellbender!
