My question for today... Last year only those with Verizon Cell Phones had reception at Fontana, correct? Does anyone know if that is still the provider of choice? Would a pay as you go Verizon phone get reception at Fontana? The reason I am asking is I am wondering how our house sitter would get in contact with us if needed while we are at MOTD. I hope to be able to get up to the lodge and check email once a day but I would love her to be able to phone us if necessary. I believe I read that the cabins didnt have phones. (Am I remembering that wrong?) If our sitter called the front desk, how would the staff at Fontana get a message to us? I figure since this is the largest MOTD ever there has to be a few others that might benefit from this information too!
I don't have Verizon or any of the big name providers. However, I had great reception on top of the Fontana Dam [parking lots at their highest points or on the dam itself], and was able to make calls successfully.
I give the front desk number to my family and let them know what room I am in. In the event of an emergency the family can contact the front desk who will then relay a message. I have no idea if Fontana Village has increased the capacity or not over last year but I found it was adequate enough for me to use the laptop to keep tabs on M/A. If you have a smart phone it may be a good idea to visit Google Voice, grab a phone # and have that send you a text. .
There is a phone on our cabin, 2 bedrooms, but I think you may have to go through the lodge to call out . I'll check.
I have Verizon and seldom if at all had any service around the lodge last year.... had to be on drives or down towards Robbinsville to get full services...
My phone is "on" when I WANT it to be. I only use it for emergencies...not for daily use or chitchat.
But .....when you turn it on do you still have to climb the pole in Piqua??? Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk
We have AT&T and the only place at Fontana we could get reception was a small patch of grass on top of the dam.
I'm laying in bed after pulling out my back this morning setting up registration , but I do have internet service in my cabana room. You should be able to get internet by the Wildwood Grill and the in the Main Lodge as well
