Seems as though we has someone decide to spam quite a few people via the PM system today. Fairly sophisticated too as there is a flood control for PM's to prevent this type of thing. The logs show it was a bot as the PM were sent 1 minute and 2 seconds apart and there were almost 100 before someone reported the suspicious PM and the "user" was banned. It' things such as this that force us site owners to change settings where someone has to have x number of posts on the site before they can use the PM system. I'm not quite there yet but another one of these will have me thinking about that setting more. Sorry for the inconvenience folks. Serendipity will not bother you again.
Wouldn't think it would be a problem for new users to need a couple hand fulls of post before they can PM....2cents
Beats me as they were using a url redirection service that took one to a listing of sites the included things such as the DharmaWeb, BeliefNet and multiple other site about Eastern Philosophy and Religion. The vast majority are informational and not selling anything. As spam goes it's quite out of the norm. But still, you don't do that.
Was everyone's quote he mailed the same? I knew something was up when the subject of the pm was my username.
On another site I ran I set the post count to 3 before PMs were enabled and made posts in the introductory and for-sale forums not count towards post counts, that seemed to keep spammers at bay for the most part.
So she's not a real member and won't get any subjective photos? DAMN! ...and I just found out my email didn't really win 1million euros! :mad2:
Is it just me or has anyone else been more serendipitous today since receiving that PM? ...and it's cold outside, right?
