Does anyone have a preference/recommendation as to what is the best polishing compound to use on the chrome trim fitted to the Coop?
When polishing die form details at work, I use Gesswein Simichrome compound. I usually buy this at a local motorcycle dealer. They say that this is the dogs dangly bits when it comes to polishing chrome.

You have to remember that the chrome on a MINI is not real chrome, but a plastic chrome. I think simichrome may work, but try it in a small inconspicuous part before you go great guns on it.

Some of the chrome trim on the R56 may be metal (around the belt line) and some may be electroplated plastic like the trim around the front grill, head light and tail lights, gas cap etc....

Be a little cautious. Polishing chrome can lead to a problem as chrome is so thin that eventually you will have polished right through it. Unless your chrome is pitted I'd just trust soap and water.

3M black tape looks good.

If you really want to polish it and not wear it down use this. (Only $14.00)
    http://www.amazon.com/California-Custom-Purple-Metal-Polish/dp/B004MNKM9A/ref=pd_sim_sbs_auto_1

I use it on the only chrome thing I have on my car, the exhaust tips.

I guy I know has a custom show dump truck (yup dump truck) and the whole dump part in the back is chrome plated and looks like a huge mirror. He also uses this on his tanks, bumpers, stacks and air cleaner and everything else that's chrome.
