I was out in the middle of Illinois this morning and saw a older ladie in Clubbie and swapped a wave. Nice! Around town? Sad to say not much cause of the 'meh' response I get from virtually all other MINI drivers
3 days ago I saw an elderly(my age:lol lady in a brand spanking new red Countryman and she returned my wave. Yes I wave. Jasonopcorn:
Wave? Why of course I wave at other MINIs; and if I am preoccupied by heavy traffic, Krissy waves for me! But then again, I do tend haul some interesting items in my MINI which may cause me not to blend in ..... Victorian Dollhouse in the photo with Krissy and "extra seating" in the second. Who needs an SUV or a pickup when you have a Cabrio?
I also believe it is the responsibility of the SA to teach/school their new customers in MINI etiquette
I wave but don't always look for the wave back. Problem is when I am driving the company truck i get strange looks when I wave. I try to just give a thumbs up when not in the MINI.
I ride a Honda motorcycle and waving at other riders, no matter make or model, is a habit. It gives you a sense of community even though you do not know the other rider. Of course there are some Harley riders that don't return the gesture. On my way home from work today, a little red MC with black stripes waved at me (hand through the sun roof at a 4 way stop). It was cooler outside than normal so I didn't have the windows down or sunroof open and could only wave back through the driver window. So the question is, how do you wave? At this point, it looks like protocol is hand through the sunroof.
I still wave...usually by giving the peace sign through the windshield for approaching MINI's or through the side glass when passing them (or when they pass me, which is not very often
I'm a waver & I rarely have a wave returned. Seems the MINI has reached J.A.C. status for many owners. J.A.C. = justacar :frown2:
Still a waver here. About half, that I can see, get returned. The last car car I had whose owners exchanged waves was my first, a '65 VW bug. Is it tiny cars, or just the ones people REALLY love?
It's probably just the ones that people really love. Also, depending on the area where you live, waving is just part or driving. I know a few people that give the "raised finger wave" to just about everyone. You know, hands at 10 & 2, raise 2 or 4 fingers an knod the head slightly.
I guess I'll be the first to say that I don't wave. Nobody waves in San Francisco, where MINI is a commonplace car. Heck, I have a Pepper White R52 convertible and there are two other Pepper White R52 convertibles on my city block (as well as a Pepper White R50 hardtop, not to mention other colors, R53's and R56's). If you waved around here, you'd get a confused look, "Why is he waving at me? Do I know him from somewhere?"
Good to know this.... If I moved from Columbus to SF, I'd be chasing these people down, demanding to know why they weren't returning my wave....
Because of this thread I have conducted a study over the last two weeks. I have started waving to Mini/MINI's, VW Bugs and Smart cars. I figure we are all part of the small car revolution. The results are as follows: VW Bug = All waive and smile Smart Car = Look of astonishment, then a waive after the pass. Mini/MINI = One out of five. Jim
Soooo..... Jim, why aren't you waving to any of the new Fiat 500's? You gotta show them some love too
