This is the perfect place to possibly gather some information on two of the biggest questions I see getting tons of post time.

    1) Is 15k too long between oil changes?

    2) Will an oiled air filter damage your MAF?

Of the folks here that have turned 100K, do any of you use an oiled air filter or change oil at 15K? Please provide actual information, rather then personal thoughts. Thanks.

On my car, 15k is too long for an oil change. Significant amounts of fuel accumulate by 8k miles based on professional oil analysis.

The first generation has a MAP sensor which is out of the way of most inlet oil vapor, the T-MAP sees more oil from crankcase oil vapor than filters with a tacking medium. I no longer use aftermarket filters for a variety of reasons, but extra oil in the inlet is not one of them.

With regards to the second question, my '06 R53 has had a foam/oil Unifilter for 84,000 miles, cleaned and re-oiled every 10,000 miles. No issues.

Different story with the R56, which uses a MAF sensor.

I can't really comment on the first question, as I've never had an oil analysis and I track the car more often than once every 15,000 miles.

Everything I have read points to 15K being too long. 10K seems to be about the max.
I change oil every 7500 miles.

I only have 70K with an oiled air filter in my Mini but no problems. I do not expect any problems. I have used oiled air filters in other cars for 200,000 miles with no ill affects on MAP sensors that are very near the filter.

I follow the OBC and currently have over 261,000 miles on my engine. I did a post awhile ago on another mini forum here. But basically I vary from 15k to 25k between changes, and it is still running strong.

For me oil changes are much cheaper that rebuilding engines. I'm happy to hear of folks running long intervals with high mileage motors. For me I'll change every 7,500. I used to be a 3,000 mile changer, but since I'm running full synthetic I extended it out.

This is a hot topic, do what you feel is best I know I will. :D

As far as air filters go if there was a chance of screwing up the MAF I would use a paper one. I think oiled filters are OK, but I see no real gains over using paper ones especially in the stock housing. Just my .02...

Is that merely an opinion or do you actually have factual information to support this statement??

    1) just past 111k and change my oil about ever 15 (twice as often as the car tells me to), but I'm talking kms. I also need to add about 5 litres of oil between changes though.:ihih:
    2) I have had a K&N filter on for a year and no trouble with the MAF.

Fact: Crash and I are NOT fighting.

I am just trying to keep this thread on track (which we all know can be very hard to do :D) to see what kind of information I can find.
