Tough call on the oil changes as your mileage may vary.
I usually change my oil regardless of mileage every 6 months on my other cars that use dinosaur oil, and at least once a year for cars with synthetic oil. It may not be a problem with the oil, but the oil filter might be getting pretty clogged up.
However, last year, I neglected to calculate my 10 state roadtrip which added 7000 miles to my normal year's driving. When I brought my car in for its oil change, the dealer thought I must have recently changed the oil in my car as the oil condition still looked pretty new. I do believe I topped up a quart at least once or twice during the year, but did not expect the oil test to be "like new".
As for the question on oiled air filters, I have a K&N filter on my other 26 year old car. It's unrestored and recently, I just drove it 700 miles to and from a Show n shine in which it won its class. So I would say, unless you over oil your filter, it should not damage your MAF sensor. Run it on the highway for a decently long time every now and your car should be fine.-

On my car, 15k is too long for an oil change. Significant amounts of fuel accumulate by 8k miles based on professional oil analysis.
The first generation has a MAP sensor which is out of the way of most inlet oil vapor, the T-MAP sees more oil from crankcase oil vapor than filters with a tacking medium. I no longer use aftermarket filters for a variety of reasons, but extra oil in the inlet is not one of them. -

With regards to the second question, my '06 R53 has had a foam/oil Unifilter for 84,000 miles, cleaned and re-oiled every 10,000 miles. No issues.
Different story with the R56, which uses a MAF sensor.
I can't really comment on the first question, as I've never had an oil analysis and I track the car more often than once every 15,000 miles. -
Everything I have read points to 15K being too long. 10K seems to be about the max.
I change oil every 7500 miles.
I only have 70K with an oiled air filter in my Mini but no problems. I do not expect any problems. I have used oiled air filters in other cars for 200,000 miles with no ill affects on MAP sensors that are very near the filter. -
I follow the OBC and currently have over 261,000 miles on my engine. I did a post awhile ago on another mini forum here. But basically I vary from 15k to 25k between changes, and it is still running strong.

For me oil changes are much cheaper that rebuilding engines. I'm happy to hear of folks running long intervals with high mileage motors. For me I'll change every 7,500. I used to be a 3,000 mile changer, but since I'm running full synthetic I extended it out.
This is a hot topic, do what you feel is best I know I will.
As far as air filters go if there was a chance of screwing up the MAF I would use a paper one. I think oiled filters are OK, but I see no real gains over using paper ones especially in the stock housing. Just my .02...opcorn:

Fact I change my oil & filter every 7,500. Fact I have no problems with my MINIs engine. Fact that works well for me..... -
...or just crack open a beer together and be done with it.

No use fighting over alittle burnt oil!!!!

Fact: Crash and I are NOT fighting.
I am just trying to keep this thread on track (which we all know can be very hard to do) to see what kind of information I can find.

More internet opinions.....
Second Opinion: Oil Sludge: an expensive but preventable disaster
I know it is not MINI related, but having had an Audrey that had uber sludge this reinforces my opinion of the need for timely oil changes. Your opinion may vary.... :ihih:
