I'm in discussions with a vendor about offering a 4x100 bolt pattern 17x8" or 17x8.5" forged racing wheel that weighs in around 16 to 16.5 lbs. It would likely first come in silver painted format.

I'm looking for this rather than going with a full custom wheel. This vendor could offer it as a production model at less cost than a custom if there was interest. I'm interested because there aren't many non-custom options out there for a wider 17", 4x100 patterned wheel which is important for autocross competition and track. Some products, like the Team Dynamics 17x8" offering, are reasonable but too heavy. The TD weighs 19+ lbs, for example. I know there are many wheel options out there but staying in a 17" wheel for the JCW in a light, wider racing model is hard to find.

I know this is very unscientific but if there are others out there that might be interested chime in. Since they're looking at a forged product it would likely come in around $350 - $450 each.

Note: I'm running 17x7 Kosei's now and they're great...just need to support a wider tire.

Where did you see a 17x8 TD rim?

Depends on what the wheel looks like.

More details, I think your cost is optimistic. But forge ahead...

What are you thinking, 5 spoke or 6 spoke for cooling, etc?

Not to derail your thread, but I still have two sets of 17 x 8 custom Kodiaks for sale. Forged and about 15 lbs.

I got them through Helix, who in turn got it from the NA distributor - I forget the name.

Thanks to everyone for your input. Here's more info.

The vendor wants to remain anonymous for now. I think they're following this thread.

The style can be a five or six spoke or a 9 spoke....not likely to be a mesh or a double spoked or a radical form. Likely along the lines of a Volk TE37 or an OZ Allegerrita HLT.

The price is ambitious for a forged wheel for sure. Not really sure what they have in mind. I simply said such a price on a forged wheel would get a lot of attention.

I think the opportunity here is to get a quality light, wider wheel (I prefer an 8.5" but the 8" will do) with only the 4x100 holes. My Kosei K1 TS wheels are great but I can only get them in 7" width and the extra holes detract from the look, at least for me.

It would likely be offered in silver or maybe gunmetal but not black.

TD lists them on their website. One mini here in Austin runs them. He really likes the wider width and tire for track but would love a lighter wheel and would also likely go for the 8.5" if he could get it.

This is a great wheel but I'd still like greater width for the money....

    "Is that what she said?"

I'm one of those old school types that still likes silver wheels. But, the gunmetal version is very appealing to me. I'll keep this in mind. (The site says they're sold out for now but I'm not in a hurry...) Thanks.
