Take the plastic plug out, plug in your 12v device in the socket and voila...Power!

Hmm pictures would definitely be helpful. There is a normal cigarette lighter socket on the left side in my boot, is that what you a referring to?

The one in my Clubman is flush.

BTW: It was flush in the 2012 MINI loaner I had a couple of weeks ago.

Hey thanks pmsummer. I did try to push it in when I first notices it but it didn't budge at all. That's why I was wondering if that's the way it was supposed to be. Clearly I may have to visit the dealer this week to have this corrected.
Thanks for the info guys. -

Take out the blank plug in the center and try pushing it in.

In that pic, the socket looks fine (looks flush to me), but the "plug" doesn't seem to fit. What is that plug? Is that the socket cover that came with the car? Looks different. -
When you take it back in for first service, just have your dealer take care of it. They'll probably have to pull the carpet, but that's what warranties are for.

I have a '03 MCS that has a hole in the left pannel in the boot on the plastic pannel that is filled with a plastic plug. Would this be where the power point would go? Also how would I go about wiring one in? Would I just run a ground wire to a bolt or nut inside the pannel on the left that has my tow ring and a 10-13mm combination wrench and a screwdriver that flips from flat tip to phillips in the bag and a inline fuse to a hot on the positive side of the battery as it's in the boot, no spare have to use run flats. I have a small 12V air pump to fix a flat with some Slime in a emergency and if I could add a power point there it would be easy to reach the rears and the one by the cup holders up front could reach the fronts.

I thought that was what it was for and it should be pretty straight forward to wire.
