Exhaust does not need to be removed.... At least it didn't on my 09...

Both bolts came out and I was able to add the inserts performing the operation laying on my work bench... I had to rock the engine slightly... But the exhaust was not touched....

Clarification.... I wasn't laying my workbench... The pieces / parts were laying on my workbench...
    Hmmmm....:D

I too have an 09 Metalman and the front bolthead touches my exhaust. It seems as if I only need a quarter inch more room and I tried moving the tube with a crowbar to no avail. I may wait until smogcheck time when I reinstall my stock exhaust to pass the test.
