I really don't care what religion they are, I served with Muslims in bother Iraq and Afghanistan and they can shoot the bad-guys as well as any Christian, Jew, other or Atheist. Sure it shouldn't need to be stated what religion someone is when announcing their job but that probably has more to do with the source reporting than the individual themselves. Religion aside are they qualified for the job? OK then.

:cornut: That is the 7.62 x 39(the old RussianSKS/AK47rd) which is roughly the same power as a 30/30 Win(short to med range hunting round). Actual ballistics are 120gr .308/7.62mm bullet with a muzzle velosity of 2400ft/sec. It lacks power and range. If you hunt with that round make sure that all shots are within 100-150yds. Now trading up to an AR10 in .308Win/7.62NATO yeilds a 150-165gr .308/7.62bullet at 2700-2800ft/sec with a considerable increase in power and range. There are other problems with the 7.62x39 Russian(all former Communist Block weapons in this caliber actually). Ammo, chambers, and barrels manufactered in the US adhere to strict SAAMI tolerances(excellent accuracy and safety). The bullet in Russian ammo is anywhere from .308-.311 with Russian barrel tolerances equally sloppy.(that's why they don't ever jam, with wide open sloppy tolerances nothing touches anything else. No jams but no accuracy either) So always only use American ammo in American barrels to avoid dangerously high chamber pressures that could lead to chamber rupture and serious physical injury. Russian barrel will take American and Russian ammo safely but don't expect to hit anything with it beyond 100yds. My advice: Stick with American .223 Rem/5.56NATO(AR15) or .308Win/7.62NATO(AR10) ammo in nonRussian rifles.

And why would anyone "need" both......sheesh.

You have a greater chance of being hit by lightening than needing a gun to protect yourself in your home, so I am sure you would want to buy my anti-lightening suit just for those occasions.

:cornut: Nice Moisin Nagant. Look at the top of the muzzle end of the barrel. Is the ordinance mark Czarist(crossed arrows) or communist(hammer and sickle), just curious. Yes they are/were accurate of course, the tooling to make them was set up in Czarist Russia. If there are Czarist ordinance markings on her then her sights will be graduated in 'Arshins'(old Russian yard/meter equivalant) as oppossed to yards or meters. Have fun with her.

:cornut: So, who's into reloading. Except for the exotics, it doesn't seam to be as popular as it once was. Molding or swaging one's own bullets has definately taken a down turn. To me, what with foreign ammunition, reloading just doesn't seem economical any more. Thoughts?

:cornut: Your Son and/or his associates do very nice work. They really gave that Moisin Nagant the character and look that it deserves. The wood exhudes a warm glow and the bluing is just right and not over done. One of the few things as beautiful as a MINI is a well cared for rifle.(it goes unsaid that; I'd be very proud of that son and I'm sure that you are. He'd know all about the Camp Perry Matches, SEE BELOW.) These matches are a place where reloading/hand loading really comes into it's own as you want the absolute most accurate load for your individual rifle and that is usually not a factory load but a load worked up at the reloader's bench and tested on the range befor the match.

PS- You Ohio Shooters are way ahead of the power curve as you have the Camp Perry Matches every year at Camp Perry, Ohio National Guard Base situated on the shores of Lake Erie. People come to shoot in these matches from all over the world. The matches are for Military, Civillian, and Police. All skill levels from novice to expert are provided for. One can always get a good education to the matches by volunteering to assist in running/officialling the matches. No experience needed, they train you and don't allow you to get in 'over your head'.

:cornut: It's good to know that someone has some ammo. 'Cheaper Than Dirt' still has small amounts of foreign ammo.

:cornut: I just noticed that the cylinder contains only 5 chambers. So it's either a small frame revolver or a very large caliber, like .500 S&W for instance.

I like it. I need to change out a couple badges in the back anyways!
I went to a new FFL down the street to pick something up last night and he had an R53 in the garage. I think he will be joining up here soon an joining us for donuts.
