Mystique is optimized to work over a sealant and help with durability, but it has never been a good option below a sealant. It can lead to streaking and durability issues. If you apply Amigo before Epic, or Epic with a PC, you have likely removed any beading agents left on the paint from Mystique, so you have eliminated anything that will disrupt the finish. Hydro Wash is just car wash soap. It's designed to work with Hydro Seal. You don't have to use Hydro Wash with Hydro Seal, but they are made to work together. You can certainly use Mystique-or any other wash for that matter-once Hydro Seal is down.
Thanks Nick / Heather for the reply. Looks like I'll be sending more of my hard earned $$ out your way.
I received my Hydro Seal and Hydro Wash yesterday and tested it out this morning. My wife asks me, "Aren't you supposed to be working?" My response: "No way - I have Hydro Seal to try out!" My first impressions: 1. Hydro Wash - red - cool color. The soap works fine. Quite a bit more sudsy than Mystique. Not much more to say about Hydro Wash - it's a car wash soap. 2. Hydro Seal: I followed the instructions and it was very easy to apply/wipe off. No worries about getting it onto the trim. I expected it to be like a lotion, but it is rather runny. I'm not sure I was using the proper amount but there was plenty to go around and it soaked into the damp rag nicely. I used plenty from the small bottle and ended up using only about 20 percent of the bottle on the Mini. It's probably good for 3 or 4 more applications. The only problem I had was that the bottle became slippery and fell out of my hand several times, leaking some of the Hydro Seal onto my driveway! I started closing the pop-up lid to avoid any more spills. Now that I am done: shiny, great looking Horizon Blue mini with some very minor spider webbing on the black roof mostly concealed by the Hydro Seal. It looks fantastic! I'll see how it wears over the next couple of weeks. I've never used Epic or any other wax so I don't have any comparisons. Having said that, it looks great and much better than I expected. Before I started, my car was quite dirty with lots of bugs to remove during the wash. It took about an hour and a half to wash/remove bugs, dry the car, apply the Hydro Seal and then clean the windows Hydro the tires. Overall, I love it. Next week I may apply some Banana Gloss over the top just to see how it looks, but I'm satisfied as it is. Now that I have moved beyond just Hydro, the differences are very noticeable.
LittleJoe, Thanks for the feedback. I'm quite sure you used too much, but I'm also sure your use will go down as you get more comfortable using Hydro Seal. 20% of the bottle is more than I use on our Suburban. It takes about 2oz to HS the MINI. Nick
I've got my HS sitting on the shelf but inertia kept me to my traditional Springtime clay-Swirl-Amigo-Epic routine (even though taping off the trim is such a PITA). I'm thinkin' about my initial HS application as a late summer reinforcement of the Epic. I understand the improved behavior over trim, but can anyone describe how HS behaves on the seams of vinyl and clearbra?
I could see no noticeable residue at the edge of my clearbra. The stuff just hazes a tiny bit, and wipes right off. There's no real "substance" to it like there is with Epic or BG. It's not "powdery". It really is like magic. I doubt I'll ever use Epic again. It took me 20 minutes to do two full coats. No mess, to taping, nada. Magic. I could do this every month if I had to. But it should last much longer than that.
