I wonder how well this would work to remove the liquid goo from leaking motor mounts?

Cool! Glad USPS didn't let us down. haha yeah it's stinky...kinda unlike most Prima products. Let us know!

Shouldn't this stuff come in a much smaller bottle? Or is the idea that I get the whole neighborhood to chip in and share one?

Yeah I suggested like a 4ounce bottle would be sufficient, lol. They have their internal reasons, but I suspect it was more for convenience because they don't offer different size bottles for any of the Prima products.

So the stuff works great
But, you need to be careful.
From here on in I will refer to Cosmoline as "snot" because I can never remember what the stuff is really called:mad2:
I used it on both our MINIs, the old guy, 03 Cooper, and the young buck, 08 Clubman. Just did a couple of test spots on both. Cleaned the test area with soapy(Dawn) water first.
Clubman;
Here you can see the snot on the driver's side strut tower.
Used a Q-tip on the snot, and let it dwell for about 4-5 minutes. Then wiped it with a cheapo MF. Almost gone.
Did it again, the same way. Completely gone.
Now on to the 03. Has 7 year old snot baked on it, like this.
Now I let this dwell a little longer, just shy of 10 minutes, with a second application at 5 minutes. Wiped it a little, and it was coming off nicely. BUT, some was not, and I used my finger nail, through the MF to work at it. DON'T DO THIS!!! It took some paint with it, as you can see here.
I can touch that up. Not a big deal. But be aware, this stuff packs a punch.
So what I learned from this first try, let the product dwell/soak in (says so on the directions) Then the snot just wipes off. Clean the area well you are going to treat first. http://www.motoringalliance.com/forums/detailing/909-how-i-clean-mini-engine-bay.html DON'T RUB HARD, OR SCRAP the snot. Do another application.
I also think it would be best to pour a small amount into a small container, so your Q-tip does not containment the product in the bottle. By small I mean 1/2 an ounce or less. Probably a good idea to keep the lid on this stuff, as it smells like it will evaporate.
I'm happy with the results, and it will last for as many MINIs we will ever own:cornut:

Yeah the paint in the engine bay is very delicate, mostly because it doesn't have a clear coat and secondly because it's very thin. Most any kind of hard rubbing, CosmoNot or not isn't recommended.
So Prima should rename it as CosmoSnot?
I just poured some into the cap and dipped the Qtips into it. That works fine too!
Nice Review Mark!

Yes, yes, yes... you are all right. We really should've put CosmoNot into a smaller bottle. You don't really need a full 16oz in most cases!
However, we chose to put it into our standard 16oz bottle and use our standard oval label that fits the standard 16oz bottle so we could get it out quickly. :yesnod: We have been receiving requests for such a cosmoline remover from MINI owners for years now. Had we spent the time to source a smaller bottle, buy the minimum quantity, design a smaller label, buy the enormous minimum label quantity, etc, we'd still be very far out from actually having the product available. I know it sounds silly to most people but something non-standard is a really big deal to a small company like ours!
So, I'm sure one day we'll use smaller bottles for stuff like CosmoNot and other future products but for right now we figured it's better to get the new products out to you then to make you wait even longer.
In the meantime, know that you won't get stuck running out of CosmoNot! Or, go in on a bottle with a friend. Better to have it big than not at all, right?
That said, the feedback is duly noted too. Thank you!

Great review and write-up, lotsie! It's always nice to have something users and potential users can follow beyond the boring words on the back of the bottle.
Pictures are great too!
And yes, as Richard already noted... be careful on delicate engine bay paint.

I also bought the Cosmonot. Although I wasn't nearly as sparing with the use which may not be a good thing but I just poured some on a rag and wiped the cosmoline away. No scrubbing, it just wiped off. Granted my MINI is new so the cosmoline didn't have any time to set in. Next time I am going to try the Q-tip method to limit the area exposed to the Cosmonot.
