I also bought the Cosmonot. Although I wasn't nearly as sparing with the use which may not be a good thing but I just poured some on a rag and wiped the cosmoline away. No scrubbing, it just wiped off. Granted my MINI is new so the cosmoline didn't have any time to set in. Next time I am going to try the Q-tip method to limit the area exposed to the Cosmonot.
It makes sense to try and limit the amount of Cosmonot you get on the paint surrounding the snot. I think the reason the paint scraped off on the 03 may have been because I let it dwell to long. Should have been more patient and taken it down in layers, with more applications. Mark
Yeah i agree. I wasn't super worried because the only Cosmoline I could find was on the bottom side of my door.
Which has clear coat. Engine bay has no clear coat. At least on the 03 it did nothing to the primer. On a 2nd gen. there is no "Primer". Mark
Some pix from the photoshoot after using Cosmonot Prima Rocks! No swirls here thanks to Prima Swirl! Thanks to Prima's products like Cosmonot and Hydro, this engine bay looks spectacular and not distracting alongside the model!
So is she wearing one of your new product offerings? The Octaneguy Waffle weave micro fiber dress?:arf:
Well I impressed some folks this past weekend with Cosmonot, but I was wearing a little red number, as white clashes with my leg hair. Mark
sorry. I think there is something wrong with the photo you posted. I don't see any engine bays......
Another Use for CosmoNot but Be Careful! Ok I read Mark's advice about being careful to not let CosmoNot sit on the paint too long because it softened his unclearcoated paint in the engine bay. But today I had to remove a very stubborn chunk of adhesive foam tape used to hold on an emblem. The customer decided to remove the badge himself, leaving the foam tape behind and wanted ME to deal with it. I tried all kinds of things from Goo Gone to PW to a hair dryer to just rubbing little bits and pieces off and nothing really worked that well. As a desperate move, I wondered if CosmoNot would do anything. I applied a little bit to the foam tape with a Q-Tip, and surprisingly it wiped off with a little effort. You do have to let the CosmoNot penetrate the foam tape for a bit and that's where it might seem a little scary...just don't apply it and forget it, lol. Set a timer if you have to. Regardless, in about 30 minutes I removed what was taking me all day of pain and frustration. Btw, I know there are different adhesive removers and precleaners that could remove the tape but I didn't have any on hand, so I used what I had, and surprisingly CosmoNot worked very well! Richard
Probably the wrong thread, but what is in clear coat that makes it so much tougher than just paint? Is it because it has a gloss to it, so like a house paint is tougher than a flat house paint. Mark
Well you've heard of paint being described as hard or soft paint right? What determines the hardness is the ratio of hardener the painter used. It's a very fine balancing act where if you use too little hardener, it never dries, so usually the painters will err on the harder side. Compositionally though, I think both base coat and clearcoat are the same, just that one has pigment and the other doesn't. Richard
