I wasn't clicking on the pictures as they were big enough to see easily. I found that if I do click on the pictures for a larger view, the notification goes away.
Am I correct to understand you were already in the article when you clicked on the picture? If so, I would think that would have taken that Article off the new list.. i.e. you shouldn't have to do anything more than click on the "new" article.
