Just saw this thread for the first time. Wonder how this will work for me, seeing as how I bought Poco new in Canada in 03, but now live in the States, I'm sure I will be doing this :mad2: a lot :rolleyes5:

:cornut: Yeah maybe but, you're a US Citizen now so hopefully that will make up for some of the heart burn. Also you had to earn your citizenship, most of the rest of us were merely born here.

Any further word about the power steering pump issue? I just bought a 2006 Cooper Convertible (R52), and the case that contains the power steering pump is cracked and has leaked. Scheduled for a replacement of the housing next Wednesday. Does anyone know if the warranty extension covers this problem? I've ordered a Bentley manual, and plan to make good use of it. All the exterior rubber trim has "died" too, cracked and brittle. Anyone have advice about replacing it?

    Pretty old dated thread...
Pump was given an extended warrenty in the US...
    Not sure about up north...
In the us, PRODUCTION date is important...warrenty was 2002-EARLY 2005....
    SO 2006...out of luck.

The dried rubber trim around the ragtop (sometmes cslled the "beltline on a hard top)is pretty common...
Easy fix...new parts..but not cheap..but have known a few folks Who had to do it...
The price of the pumps have come WAY down...heck even places like rockauto. Com has them....Napa has lifetime rebuilds for a bit more I think...
Just be sure to refill with the correct PS fluid...it is special...mini sells it , as do most vw and some big box auto parts stores like Napa...but as..it is sometimes a " counter" item.

Yes, up north, they have the extended warranty also. Mine was replaced last year. My neighbour's R50 went last week and MINI covered the new pump under warranty. However, where was other damage, like cracked or leaking power steering fluid hoses and they winged her $1600 to fix everything else.
