The R50 is a nice car. the issue today is that a lot of R50 drivers want a bit more power, and dont want to spend $1000.00 - $1500.00 on a Head. That little 1.6 is what it is. Cute and good fun ! We have over the years all focused on the M45 R52-R53 Minis. Usually customers that buy a supercharged engine are into performance anyways, yes ? Well Thumper Performance has two camshafts for the R50's. they bolt in, no tricks or bad idle. good street power and hard pull. Thumper Performance has the Adjusted Cam gear that we do for all the MINIs. This is great for the r50s by changing the OEM existing cam phase and pulling more power that way. That works great. And we can use that on almost all the camshafts out there. ( even the Schrick with its low end loss or that flat spot. ) We decided to make cams for the R50s also. By upgrading the center lines, to keep torque low and still pull hard mid and top. Nope, you wont end up with a R53, but you WILL have one bad ass R50 !! Then after 3500 they would start to come alive. R50 racers used the Schrick as it is a good camshaft and it has been around for a while. Well there are now TWO for the R50's . Yea my experience with Schrick cams on other cars has been similar. Down low not great, but mid to upper pulls well.
