maybe ill just buy the rebuild end plate kit. only issue is the super charger isn't spinning the water pump and overheated my car pretty badly in the process...
now shes grinding like a mother trucker when i accelerate and quickly after that temps just continually rise and I'm sure if i keep the car running itll overheat itself
We sell rebuilt units that we have never had any problems with that come with a 2 year unlimited miles warranty. They normally have new rebuilt water pump gears and such cause we get a lot of cores where they are just wasited. Eaton M45 Supercharger R53 R52 MINI Cooper S
We also have a some used units that we know are good and we do a fluid flush and change in both the front and back.. this is a good option if your car is down and your low on funds...cause no one has time for a car that over heats from light to light... USED MINI Cooper S M45 Supercharger R53
New from the dealer is about 1800 last time looked... but we can get them if needed.
I also have another option if you want more boost with perfectly sealing veins and lower temps. it's just not out yet, but your looking 2K ish. Just something we are trying.
The Davies Craig pump is one of the big problem areas with the Sprintex kits... One locally didn't even make it home from the shop that installed it (Peak Eurosport) before the housing split and dumped the coolant all over the highway!
I recommend using a good Stuart pump... They are not the cheapest POS like Sprintex used, but they aren't plastic either... You get what you pay for.
You can get the sc rebuilt...about $800 from a "Eaton" authorized rebuilder....
You can go cheaper....but you don't list a $$ range...if you are thinking aftermarket, then a GOOD rebuilt unit, ported should be a possible candidate.
Sprintex.... Not too familiar....lots of good and bad stories, so unless you want max HP, inclined to say not worth it.
Stegimier is a well respected Eaton rebuilder and porter....
Vendors like waymotorworks also keep rebuilt units in stock from trusted rebuilders that know what to fix....
A rebuild is a temporary band aid, you are much better sourcing a new one. And $800 rebuilt comes very close to a new one--the savings on the rebuilt isn't worth it.
It's luck of the draw on the rebuild--there are tolerances to all that stuff spinning at insane RPMs in there, and when you rebuild, even if it's someone with access to multiple parts, it's like winning the lottery that the tolerances on mismatched parts will allow for reliability over time.
You do not want a Sprintex, especially used. They are in the process of redeveloping it for the umpteenth time (despite the extensive "testing"--a lap around a McDonald's parking lot--that revealed it was ready for the masses. That didn't work out so well.).
If you want a Sprintex, just send the money to me instead--we'll both be happy--I can buy some parts that work, and you'll save money by not blowing your engine.
I would NEVER do the Sprintex again, because of their failure rate. (Over 50% closer to 70% from my gathering of data)
That being said though, I do have a working one for sale...
It was production kit #11, and the first one to be installed by a private owner. I went and picked it up from BoosTec in CO Springs 3 days before the 10 pre orders shipped! Had it installed that weekend, and ran it for about 4000 miles before the engine gave up a rod bearing.
$2K will get you everything that comes with the kit, plus the smaller 63mm pulley, but you also pay shipping...
The reasons I am giving it up...
Its not as much of an S/C as a heat pump, and with all the associated failures others have had its not for me! Feel free to send a PM if you are interested...
How about retaining the stock charger & just installing an electric water pump. Surely that will be the cheapest approach. Sprintex uses the Davies Craig ewp80. Kit is around $200. You can follow the tapping instructions of the pump from the Sprintex site.
