Go 16" max. You might even be able to get away with 15" wheels if you don't have a BBK. If you're going as wide as 8" wheels, you'll have to check offset to be sure you don't rub too much. My policy is to let others be the guinea pig. Look around the internetz and see what others have done.

Tire options (for aggressive tires anyway) will be more plentiful in 15 if that matters to you.
Those look TE37-esque which is a pretty solid style imho-

Pm the guy who owns the car and ask? You could always run R56 cooper brakes, same caliper smaller rotor and bracket to accommodate barrel size.
I still dont encourage you to copy someone elses car though.-

I have run 15x8 and 17x8 with 225s. 15s are an easier fit and cheaper, lighter, and lower the final drive. I only swapped to 17s to clear stupidly big brakes.
If you don't fancy the 6ULs.... http://www.motoringalliance.com/forums/wheels-tires-sale/23106-3-piece-15x8-forged-wheels-tires-spacers.html -

a RPF1 fits the car in 16x8 and you can put R56 brakes under it with a 225 tyre on the car.
that should be plenty.
Look for that gray car on Mini torque under DOMO, Though its amazing to me how many people want to copy that car. -
ahh I see he has rota wheels, 660 $ with a 20mm offset

17 pounds a tire, the 15" K2R is quite a bit lighter, 13.5, not sure if they will clear R56 brakes though that's what I will probably end up with -
he does not run 15" K2R's I'm not sure what asking him would do for me, what do you mean copy someones car? That makes no sense unless you buy custom rims cut just for your car there is always someone else that has the same rims as you do
