Blinker Fluid? Muffler bearings? KaleCoAuto has everything you need. Replacement : KaleCoAuto, Hard to find automotive items! Dave
This post just had to be on your thread MM, if you get my drift. :ihih: Now, back to your "exhausting" topic. Jim
I have to tell you Dave they suck. I tried using their lowering kit on my runflats & nothing! What a waste of money. :mad2: Although I am a satisfied user of their cross drilled brake lines.
It's been crazy busy at work and haven't had a lot of time to do much on my custom exhaust. But I did get the exhaust flanges made. Here they are in 3/8" thick T304 SS.
Ok, this weather has been getting me down, I've been slammed with jobs at work that have been pulling me away from my pet project. It was kinda nice today, so I decided to run down to the shop and work on my project. It's been kind of bothering me that maybe 4" diameter exhaust tips would be too large. I was leaning towards maybe down sizing them to something like 3-1/2" tubing. So with that in mind, I went ahead and whipped up a set of fake tips just to get a feeling how two 4" tips would look. I cut down some 4" SS tubing to a 3-1/2" length. Put them on my lathe and did some quick polishing to get the finish I'm after. Here are the SS polished tips. Then with a spacer made out of aluminum foil and some duct tape... Instant fake tips. Slipped them over the stock tips. Top view. 3/4 view. Whatever view. Little farther back view. Sooooo.... I'm thinking 4" might be OK???? Give me some feedback here people. What do you think, go with 4"?
Chuck I think they do look good. Couple of comments; my personal preference is to have them cut on a bias, my 3.5" JCW tips are big but allow enough room for me to get inbetween with a damp rag and wipe down 2 or 3 times a week between drives (keep's em nice and shiny). The 4s look like there's not much room between for cleaning. Just a thot. I'm enjoying watching the progress on your project
Thanks all, for a split second I was thinking 4-1/2", but that would be a little much. The size of each canister will determine how much sound absorption / cancellation will be achieved with the exhaust note. The bigger the "room" so to speak, the better the exhaust gasses will be allowed to expand before exiting the two baffled chambers. I will always be able to make them louder by reducing the chamber size with my inserts, but the two muffler's capacity will always be determined by their initial size. Rixter, good point on the space between for cleaning. Right now the mockup is at 1/4" space. I'm thinking I'll be able to pull a rag through that and get enough cleaning force to knock off the grime. I could probably open it up to 3/8" space with no problem. I'm trying to leave a little gap on the right and left sides of the muffler so there won't be any contact with the bumper skin, bringing vibrations into the cabin. With the 4" mockup tips sitting on the kitchen, they look huge, but after attaching them to the MINI for a visual, they look OK. So I'm settled on 4". Thanks Guy's..... Chuck
Good suggestion on the angled tips. I'll go ahead and tack weld the mockup together and do an angle cut on the tips, I'll match the same angle as the JCW tips. Then I can flip the mockup..... showing the angled tips or the square cut tips and get your input on which looks the best. Thanks, you's guy's. Chuck
