It sure as heck looks exactly like a K&N filter I would try cleaning it with your kit. What can it hurt? Just don't load it with too much oil. Everything MINI makes is disposable or "lifetime" who really knows. The JCW filter for a first gen MINI is also a K&N filter but MINI just wants you to toss it in the trash and come in and buy another one.
