I swapped the MAP sensor out with the old and the P129E code cleared so it looks like the new one was defective. I will see when I get a replacement what happens.
I made a video of my engine running to see if the sound is the lifters or the timing chain. I would really like to figure out why my crankcase pressure is so odd.
Alrighty. Did two more tests. Tested brake booster pressure at the clip by the crankcase. Maxed out my gauge at 28inHg and did not move with throttle. Doesn't sound good to me but no idea really. tested engine vacuum by unclipping an unknown u-shaped hose under the intake manifold on the drivers side of the throttle body. Right next to where the PCV hose goes into the throttle body. Used a plug that fit well but not sure if it was air tight. Got a constant 15inHg. Dropped quickly to zero with throttle and then up to 20 before returning to 15. I am at sea level.
That's what mine sounded like. When I took it apart it was the tensioner on the back site that was not extending all the way allowing slack in the chain. Like I said I replaced the chain guides and tensioner. Maybe I could have done just the tensioner but bad things happen when a chain brakes. I got this kit https://www.detroittuned.com/mini-n14-timing-chain-kit/ and their loaner tool. https://www.detroittuned.com/mini-n14-timing-tool-kit-rental/ Detroit Tuned supports the Mini community. Chad the owner is very helpful and is always at Minis on the Dragon. He has helped me a lot. Now that I think of it you should give them a call about what you have found so far. Detroit Tuned is a Mini repair shop. He knows what he is doing. 586-792-6464 We have some other vendors that really support us. Outmotoring Helix RMW to name a few. I stay away from ECS. Its a long story but the short is they don't give a flip about the community and have stated they will buy you out or put you out of business. They have cornered the BMW world.
I got the turbo oil line super kit from Detroit Tuned and am happy with them. I have been in contact with Chad and he has recommended I come out there since it is only a five hour drive. The timing chain and loaner tool you linked have been in my shopping cart for months. I think I will order it now since I get a steady 15inHg vacuum pressure, which I believe means the timing is off. Can anyone confirm this?
Blocked the PCV ports and added a BSH catch can on the turbo side and get 20inHg vacuum at the intake manifold. Don't know what else to do about poor mileage and rough idling so I will replace the timing chain with a Detroit Tuned setup next week. Also purchased a new OBD reader, NT301, to make sure my old one wasn't giving bad readings, but nope. New one gets the same readings. o2b1s2 at idle .80 o2s11 at idle -0.01 to 0.01 I am almost positive my car gives no warning lights on the dash when there is an isuue. Had an obvious misfire and nothing popped up. Not with aggressive driving or normal driving. What could be the cause of this? I mean it was bad enough to make the car feel like the clutch was slipping under WOT. Also got no code or indicator from removing the rear brake pad sensor.
Since you are not the original owner someone may have put black electric tape on the back of the gauge faces so the lights do not show. Just a thought as to why you don’t see trouble lights on the tach and speedo.
Hi There, I recently had my intake manifold off and after replacing I realised I left off the small white clip...does anyone know what this part is/does and what leaving it off will do? I have driven all week without it now. Thanks
I think you mean on the throttle body. At least that is where I found a white clip on my R56S that seemed to do nothing. I looked and looked at it but found absolutely no purpose or point to it being there. It wasn't connected to anything. If your car is running the same without it you can probbly just store it somewhere and reinstall it next time you have access.
Yup, that's the pointless clip I was talking about. Have to take it to a Mini mechanic and ask them to explain what it is for.
Couldnt find it in the parts catalogs, just this guy mentions not forgetting to put it back on at 8:55 but doesnt say what it is or does...
After that little diversion I would like to get back to my issue. I just received my third new MAP sensor(The one in the picture above), and again my car immediately throws a P129E -Manifold Absolute Pressure Minimum Pressure Implausible- code(OBD Live data shows MAP at 26kpa at idle). So now I know it is not a faulty new part and it was actually a faulty old MAP sensor that wasn't throwing the code. So what the heck is causing this code? My mileage is still god awful. 18mpg yesterday for city driving. Car runs well enough. Only slight vibration at idle and no noticable loss of power at any rpm. Oxygen sensor(Brand new) readings are still way off what they should be. 0.7v upstream and around 0.0v downstream. Could defective or leaky injections be a problem? How about incorrect fuel pressure? I want to test but cannot find the correct tee adaptor to plug into the line in the engine compartment.
