Just cause the roads are randomly named, twist, turn, and partially one-way, with folks making right turns from the left turn only lane does not make it crazy.....not to mention daily/nightly detours to fix the 2500 pound ceiling tiles that have started to fall in kill folks and crush cars in "new" tunnels (its been a couple years...but still, yikes!!).
In many ways it is worse than NYC......
One tip...GPS does not work in the "big dig" aka the tunnels of i93/i90, and the 3 harbour/airports tunnels....all having multiple exits, lane drops and mergers in a twisting tunnel that has limit sight distances and almost no signage..... So know where you are going before you enter the tunnels....
And I use a 9500i with the GPS speed from it set on the display....
But one tip....laser is almost used exclusively by the highways cops up here....so a radar detector is really only useful on secondary roads.....laser detection is such short range...your best bet there is looking ahead for tail lights....

I have been using a Escort Passport 8500 x50 for many years (I think now $300). It always ranks well in detection tests. I do most driving in more rural areas so I do not need the GPS capability of more expensive detectors. I like being able to turn of individual bands, such as X and K that I do not care about and mainly cause false alarms in my area.
The arrows on the Valentine 1 would be nice but I did not want to spend $500 on a detector.-

In Ohio the trooper are taught to aim at the front plate. So I cut the plate down to just the numbers and angle it to reflect down. It is 100% legal to Ohio law. (law says clearly visible and rigidly affixed) I've seen officers take a double look at it and keep on going.

I've used a Rocky Mountain RMR-C435 for the last three years and love it!
-
RMR for me as well although I don't know the exact model. But it works great. Cleaning up that driving record.

Thanks everybody! I have done some online research, but trust my mini family more.
I've never had one, but have been doing more long drives since getting my mini.

I have a Cobra xrs9970g. The gps system was great; it warned about red light cameras, places cops like to sit, etc. but I lost the gps piece when moving. :cryin::mad2:
I haven't replaced it because I want to get a Valentine one. I have heard lots of good things about them.

I have a Beltronics 995. I like it, has great range.
I have the display set to show voltage as its default setting, it makes it easier to monitor electrical system health without adding an extra gage. -

It's been 14 years since my last ticket & no detector in the world would have warned me of the instant on lidar the well hidden Sherif was using. I figure if I had a detector I'd probably have more tickets. I have a friend that runs a detector & I believe he has had a couple tickets in the last 2 years. Justa my .02.

My V1 picks up Laser and Instant on Radar from very far away.
Now the trick is understand what your detector is doing / telling you and adjust your speed quickly.
I run with a pack of cars and stay back about a 1/4 mile and when I get those FULL short alerts I SLOW DOWN.
That is the sign someone (LEO) is using Laser or Instant on Radar ahead picking off cars as they come by.
Lets use say  81 S and N within 20 miles of Roanoke Va is a perfect example. -
I had a V1, and then the state put up radar stations every mile on every Highway in cincinnati. Every mile I would get a screaming hit, and eventually I figured it out. At that time, only escort had GPS and the ability to block those out so I switched to escort. Both companies are based in cincinnati,. And I just don't understand how valentine owners and employees can drive here with the speed monitoring. It's for tracking Highway problems, but still.

I have an Escort Passport Max. It's a little pricey but I love it and I got it while living last year in New Hampshire and driving the highway everyday and now back in Florida and driving in town it seems to be a little bit much but still love it for the days its kept me driving without being pulled over.
